Star Community Friends Church
Star, ID
This electronic Share Call announcement accompanies paper brochures that have been distributed to each church in Northwest Yearly Meeting.

Can you visualize a group of Amish farmers coming together for a barn raising in just one day? That’s the kind of thing we in Northwest Yearly Meeting try to do together through the Share Call. None of us as individuals can do it all, but it’s the whole Yearly Meeting doing together what one church can’t do alone.

The genesis of Star Friends church was from the Boise Monthly Meeting, established in 1899 by Kansas Yearly Meeting.  A number of these Boise members lived in the Star area and the center of interest gradually gravitated toward Star.  In December 1903, Rosa Virtue, a Friends minister from Kansas, held very successful revival meetings in Klondike Schoolhouse north and east of Star.   At a meeting in the home of Samuel Beeson near Star, on February 6, 1904, Boise meeting appointed a committee to investigate a possible site for a church building in the Star area.  This committee was continued as a building committee.  The next Monthly Meeting in March was held in the Klondike Schoolhouse and Rosa Virtue was called to be the pastor.  In the April meeting, the name was changed from Boise to New Hope which eventually became Star Monthly Meeting.

The first parsonage in Star was purchased in 1918 for $800 which included furniture.  In 1925 the building of a new parsonage was authorized at the estimated cost of $1600.  Completed in 1926, it was later moved to its present location in 1967 to make room for the construction of the present church facility.

In 1988 Star Friends Church purchased the nearly 4 acre Star Camp Meeting property which completed the current campus of the present church.    Today the church is home to Little Miracles Preschool and Kindergarten, with additional usage for therapy and counseling services.   The “Star Barn” as the camp meeting property is called, has been the host of numerous events in the community for a number of years.   The Lord has blessed Star Friends in many ways which include this rich resource of property and facility.  Star Church continues to trust God for the additional challenges of maintenance and provision for necessary upgrades.
