Women building better communities

September 2019 Communique

From the President:
I would like to take some time to welcome our Board members for the 2019-2020 league year. Please welcome Laura Wilson who has accepted the position of President- Elect and will be assisting me in planning our Fall Sustainer Luncheon on November 2nd at the Longmeadow Country Club (please save the date, with more details to follow). Tracy Pietkevicht has moved into the role of VP of Finance with Jes Pokora serving as Treasurer. They have been building on last year’s successful fundraisers and I look forward to what they have planned for us. Jess Moran has agreed to stay on as VP of Community and  already has quite a few events planned. Please see below for some dates already scheduled. This year, Jackie Martucci accepted the role of VP of Membership and has already been very active recruiting during the summer months.

If you missed yoga with goats or happy hour at Brignole Vineyards (just to name a few), don’t worry she has big plans for our members this year. In addition to Jes P, we have two additional new members to the Board, Jess McArdle who as VP of Communications will be helping get our JLGS name out in the community and Maura Harrington as our recording Secretary, keeping track of all ideas and minutes for our meetings.

I am beyond excited for this upcoming league year. First off, I want to thank everyone who participated in our survey at the end of last year. It is important to get feedback on what our members feel is working and what isn’t. Our board has met several times over the summer to incorporate as much of the feedback we received as possible.I can’t wait to see you all at our various events.

Warm Regards,
Andrea

Finance Update:
Over the summer, Junior League members met to reflect on the successes of our 2018-2019 League Year and identify areas of opportunity.  Everyone got their creative juices flowing and the group was able to brainstorm together and identify some new and exciting ideas for fundraising opportunities!  With our 100th year on the horizon, and in lieu of one larger event, the League has ultimately decided to hold a number of smaller fundraisers throughout the year.  This will allow us to continue to raise funds for our Annual Scholarship and our league, while also allowing us to dedicate time and energy into preparing for our Centennial year.

Our first fundraiser will be held at the new Board & Brush in South Hadley in November.  The fundraiser held at the Somers location this past year was hugely successful and brought in a little over $500 in one night!  Due to the size of the new space, the event in November will be split between two sessions, one in the afternoon and another in the evening.  This will be a great opportunity to spend time with friends and family before the start of the holiday season!  More information to follow.

Lastly, keep your eyes open for emails regarding new Junior League attire available for purchase!  We will have short- and long-sleeve tees, baseball tees, hooded sweatshirts, and more.  Stay warm this coming season and show your League pride!  With each sale our league will receive a percentage back to reinvest in our members.

The Finance Committee is looking forward to a fun, exciting, and successful year!
