October 2019 Newsletter:

Home, Hearth, Harvest & Health

Happy October, dear friends. It's been a lovely autumn here at Cerimon House, and we've so enjoyed being with those of you who have stopped-in for an event, a rental, or a contemplative walk. We thrilled to the moving sounds of the Resonance Choral Ensemble's concert Beautiful Minds - and next we welcome the "radical hospitality" of the Rahab's Sisters Benefit event on the evening of October 17th.

We've also been saluting the work of teachers, and delighting in hearing people's various tales about the start of the school year. We adore the innate curiosity of learning, and are certain that a diligent focus on Education is the way towards a brighter civilization. Concurrently, we watch the news and continue to believe that Peace, Love, and Art are the path we must all continue to traverse.
"Keep Calm and Cerimon".

The October Creative Path Walk:
"Home & Harvest"
October 20, 21 & 22

We are in our Autumn rotation of Creative Path Walks,
having delighted in the "Lifelong Learning" installation last month.
Our monthly contemplative labyrinth offerings have received such positive community input.
Voted to "The Best of Portland" List of the Willamette Week newspaper.
Please come join us for the first time, or for "the first of many!"

We've also added two weekdays for your enjoyment:
Join us on the afternoon of:
Sunday, October 20 (between 12noon-4pm)
as well as on:

Monday & Tuesday, October 21 & 22
(between 4-7pm)
The activity is for the community, and donations are welcomed.

The journey to home, and the endeavor of finding one’s true hearth, is a lifelong pursuit. The phrase “home” means different things to people, and as we witness the diasporas taking place around the world we need to look at the path we are on, and consider where we feel safe and recognized. May we all strengthen ourselves, believe that we have enough bounty to harvest, and share that wealth with others.

BOOK YOUR 30 MINUTE OCTOBER WALK
Abiding thanks to our creative team, each of whom helps to bring the Creative Path Walk to such vivid life throughout the year: Jo Pierce, Edye Allen, Emily de Lorimier, Ansula Press, Randall Stuart

Volunteers: Help in the Autumnal Garden

It's not glamorous work, but quite satisfying. We'd love to spend a portion of a day with you primping the grounds at our campus. Leaves are falling and things need trimming, and it's a beautiful day in the neighborhood. It's true that the rains are coming, so we'll need to be strategic with scheduling, but we'd sure love to spend a grand work day together.

A Washable Wish List Item

Dear Portland-based friends, the building needs a replacement item...and who knows, you might be ready to donate the very thing! We require a stackable/front load regular-sized washer-&-dryer set. They don't need to match, but they do need to stack & front load and work well. Thanks for considering us.

Leave your contacts at: info@cerimonhouse.org, and use:
"I can help with a Garden Clean-up Day!" or "Boy, do I have an excellent washer/dryer for you." in the title, and we'll get back to you once we've zero'd-in on a schedule/plan. Many thanks, as ever.

The Modern Minotaur

Sunday, November 17 @ 6pm

Be with us for this thrilling lecture & event.

A lecture and guided labyrinth walk with author Jodi Lorimer.
Our colleague Jodi will be returning from The Labyrinth Society conference in Baltimore, just in time to share her remarkable lecture about the history of the minotaur, and to draw direct parallels to where we find ourselves now in these howlingly troublesome times. Is there a few rabid & sad monsters that comes to mind? How shall we find or way out of the pattern?

As author of Dancing at the Edge of Death: Origins of the Labyrinth in the Paleolithic,
Jodi Lorimer spent years researching the ancient history of the labyrinth and its cultural contexts in religion, history and myth. She has continued her studies to focus on the Minotaur legend and its connection with the labyrinth, particularly in Minoan Crete and the ancient circum-Mediterranean world.

What's so very special about this collaboration with Cerimon House, is that you will be able to walk an ancient labyrinth pattern, and consider the layers of meaning and the depth of the minotaur's struggle and journey.

First come, first served. Extremely limited seating.
Save the date, and be with us.

It will be an unforgettable & mythic night:
smart, spooky, and at the same time, oh-so-hopeful.

Sliding scale at the door, with $15 as suggested donation.
