Supporting staff and students to achieve their full potential
(Est. 1968)

Dear CENMAC Community,

Widgit symbol for welcomeWelcome Back!

We hope it's been a positive start to the new academic year, after a relaxing and enjoyable summer break! The team are busy delivering equipment and providing training to those students who have transferred schools. However, if you have had any staff changes and would like a visit to support confidence and skills then please do get in touch. Also, please make contact if students are finding things have changed over the holidays and they would like a review of their technology.

If you are unclear who to contact then please email: mail@cenmac.com

We look forward to working with all the schools,
students and staff again this year.

We are very pleased to be introducing Mary, a new Advisory Teacher and Sarah a Speech
and Language Therapist to our CENMAC
Symbol for new team at the beginning of this year.

Mary has been teaching in Greenwich primary schools since completing her B.Ed at the University of Greenwich in the early 1990s. She has always had a keen interest in supporting pupils with additional needs. She has worked as an EAL/EMA teacher in a school where over fifty languages were spoken, before completing the National Award for SEN Coordination and working as a SENCO in a four-form entry primary school. Mary then chose to develop her specialism in one area of SEN, leading a Designated Specialist Provision for pupils with ASD.

Sarah is a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist with experience of collaborating with education and healthcare professionals to deliver integrated therapy to students with complex communication needs. She has a particular interest in assistive technology and high tech communication systems and practices.

Voice Banking Needs Volunteers

Our team attended the Communications Matters conference and were really inspired by the speakers and information shared. Sarah, our new Speech and Language Therapist, was keen to share this information about Voice Banking with our CENMAC family.

Google's Project Euphonia

Richard Cave, MND SLT Project Manager, Motor Neurone Disease Association said:

The goal is for people with severe dysarthria to still be able to communicate using natural speech, using an app that will translate their speech accurately in near real-time if they are not understood. The project has just launched and is being developed as we go – so it’s not the finished article by any means. The initial results are promising.

I am looking people with MMD and with severe dysarthria (can usually only be understood by significant others) and good respiratory support that would be interested in participating. They will need to record up to 3500 pre-set phrases. We will provide them with all the support and equipment they need, including a Google Pixel smartphone.'
