THE LATEST HAPPENINGS AT GSLC
|
|
Jesus told his disciples: “There was a rich man whose manager was accused of wasting his possessions. So he called him in and asked him, ‘What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your management, because you cannot be manager any longer.’
“The manager said to himself, ‘What shall I do now? My master is taking away my job. I’m not strong enough to dig, and I’m ashamed to beg— I know what I’ll do so that, when I lose my job here, people will welcome me into their houses.’
“So he called in each one of his master’s debtors. He asked the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’ “‘Nine hundred gallons of olive oil,’ he replied.
“The manager told him, ‘Take your bill, sit down quickly, and make it four hundred and fifty.’
“Then he asked the second, ‘And how much do you owe?’
“‘A thousand bushels of wheat,’ he replied.
“He told him, ‘Take your bill and make it eight hundred.’
“The master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly. For the people of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own kind than are the people of the light. I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings.
“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own?
“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”

WELCA / LOPPW: “RALLY TO SUPPORT A SAFE HARBOR FOR TRAFFICKED YOUTH” LETTERS TO STATE LAWMAKERS
Women of the ELCA and the Lutheran Office for Public Policy in Wisconsin will meet in Madison this week to learn about how Wisconsin youth are impacted by human trafficking, and how we can advocate locally and statewide by talking to legislators about the Safe Harbor bill (AB41/SB49) to move Wisconsin further in the direction of directing trafficked youth to human services rather than criminalizing them - a bill with bipartisan support. Time to Bring Safe Harbor to the Floor and Pass it!
Consider signing a letter to send along, including your personal touch that asks state lawmakers to take your priorities into account in this decision before our state. Please visit the table in the Welcome Area to add your support.

“THREADS OF KINDNESS”- AN OPPORTUNITY TO ASSIST KIDS IN OUR COMMUNITY
In our relationships with our community’s schools we sometimes become aware of specific items needed to support kids attending our local schools. We will be sending out requested items via our “Threads of Kindness” email distribution list, which is being resurrected after being inactive for a time. You will have the opportunity to manage your subscription if you are currently on this list. If you would like to be added to the list to begin receiving the “Threads of Kindness” emails from Good Shepherd, please let the office or pastors know. Thank you!

CHURCH CLEAN UP DAY
Roll up your sleeves and help make our church beautiful! Last year, we had over 14 people come and help but we would love to have more! We want to make this to be an cross generational project, so everyone, old and young and in between, will be warmly welcomed! Work is needed on the lawn: preparing our winter equipment. Also, to be able to wash the inside and outside windows would be wonderful! Plan to spend an hour or the entire morning as we work together to beautify our church.

CORE OF DISCIPLESHIP
Sunday October 6 at 11:30
Sunday October 13 at 11:30
This two-session class is intended to encounter the core of where we see God engaging and loving the world. It is designed for people new to the faith, those wishing to transfer their membership from another congregation to Good Shepherd, and for anyone who wants to review the basics of the Christian faith. Our hope is not to grow membership, but to grow in discipleship as we respond to the call of Christ in our lives.
A light meal will be provided. If you need childcare, let us know as soon as possible so we can line up care. Register at eflock.org/core

CHANGE THE DATE — THANKOFFERING SERVICE
September 29, 2019
The Women of the ELCA will have their Thankoffering services at 8:00 and 10:30 am on September 29, 2019 instead of in November. Each year, WOMEN of the ELCA are committed to continue the tradition of giving in gratitude for blessings. Each year, in thousands of congregations, Thankofferings are given to support the life-changing ministries of the Women of the ELCA. Please join us.
Also, at the Adult Forum between services, we will highlight the work of women here. We will have a quilting demonstration and a time for you to try your hand at quilting. We will also have Yak and Yarn talk about their work here and in the schools. In addition, Birdie Granum will share the items needed for the Personal Care Kits with the donations from Good Shepherd members. Finally we will address advocacy in immigration and Human Trafficking. Please join us.
