WELCOME TO SJIWFF30!

Our 30th-anniversary festival is happening Wednesday, October 16th - Sunday, October 20th! We've put together a jam-packed schedule of films, panels, parties and industry events that is fitting for this milestone year. We're looking forward to celebrating with you! This year's feature films are:

EXXONMOBIL OPENING NIGHT GALA - BLACK CONFLUX

We are launching this year's Festival on Wednesday, October 16, 7pm at Scotiabank Theatres with the ExxonMobile Opening Night Gala - Black Conflux from director/writer Nicole Dorsey. Shot locally around the Avalon, this film features an incredible ensemble of actors (mainly local) and it was made by local crew!

After a world premiere during TIFF’s Discovery Program, this film is generating much-deserved critical acclaim across the industry for its sophisticated exploration of suspense, plot, and character. Director/writer Nicole Dorsey and lead actors Ella Ballentine and Ryan McDonald are joining us for the screening, along with many of the local actors, crew and producer.

CLOSING NIGHT GALA - RUSTIC ORACLE

On Sunday, October 20th, 7pm at Scotiabank Theatres we present our Closing Night Gala Rustic Oracle by director Sonia Bonspille Boileau.

This second 
feature by Women in the Director's Chair (WIDC) Feature Film Award winner and comers to us fresh from its world premiere at the Vancouver International Film Festival. Toast Sonia in person at this not-to-be-missed event!

2018 RBC Michelle Jackson Emerging Filmmaker Award Recipient Latonia Hartery will screen The Death of Winter before Rustic Oracle.

FILM INDUSTRY FORUM

In concert with the annual Festival, our Film Industry Forum brings some of the country’s leading film, television and digital media creators to St. John's for a series of panels, workshops, networking opportunities, pitch sessions, and project consultations for content creators of all levels. 

The Forum is the largest industry event in the province and is viewed with much respect across Canada. It attracts high-calibre delegates through its innovative programming, generous and candid panellists,  intimate venues, and our strong connection to the local community.

In celebration of our 30th anniversary, all regular Forum panels at the Alt Hotel as well as our Visionaries event at Club One are FREE TO ATTEND! Check out our full Forum lineup here.
