Governor's School Information
All interested 10th and 11th grade students and their families are invited to attend an informational meeting about the 2020 Governor’s School of North Carolina. Governor’s School is a summer program for gifted and talented high school students. Students may qualify in Academic Areas or Performing/Visual Arts Areas.

The informational meeting will be held at the WS/FCS Education Building located at 4801 Bethania Station Rd on September 23, 2019 at 6:30 pm. Please come out to learn more about this great opportunity!

An instructor from The Princeton Review will lead an informal talk about standardized tests and test preparation. The session is geared to those students who have taken the SAT practice test, though all interested students are welcome to attend.  Direct any questions to RJRtestprep@gmail.com. 2019 Homecoming!
You are invited to the RJR Homecoming Picnic in the Deaton Thompson Stadium Parking lot on Friday, October 4. Homecoming dinner begins at 5:00pm. Gear up for the game with a catered dinner, musical entertainment, the Dancing Boots and more! All Legacy donors ($25 or more), teachers and students eat free. Dinners may also be purchased at the event.

Homecoming T-shirts are $10 and will be on sale during lunches from Noon - 2pm this week. If you would like to place an order, please contact Leigh Ann Woodruff at (336) 253-3203.

Notable Headlines
Registration for the PSAT/ National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test is now available on the RJR website.  The cost is $17. National Merit Scholarships are only available for top scoring 11th graders. The PSAT will be administered on October 16. ALL students wishing to take the PSAT must register in advance by the September 27th deadline.
Beginning Tuesday, October 1, Burke Street Pizza (Burke St. location only) will donate a portion of their sales--the first Tuesday of every month through May-- to the RJR Athletic Booster Club. When ordering, please mention that you are patronizing this business in support of RJR. Spread the word and come out to support Burke Street Pizza and the RJR Demons! Congratulations to the Spring 2018-2019 NCHSAA Scholar Athletes and Teams!

Team Awards were given to the spring varsity teams meeting the recognition criteria of at least a 3.1 unweighted aggregate GPA during the semester during which they competed. Congratulations to Men's Tennis, Women's Soccer, Men's Baseball, Women's Lacrosse and Men's Golf on achieving the award.

The individual award is given to varsity athletes meeting the recognition criteria of a 3.5 weighted GPA during the semester during which they competed. Certificates will be given during homeroom. Please stop by Student Services if you didn't get your certificate during homeroom. Certificates will always be delayed a semester due to the reporting of the grades. Thank you for helping feed some hungry Demons at RJR! Please bring contributions to the Guidance Office. Any of the following are always welcome:
  • Applesauce
  • Canned Meats (chicken, beefaroni, ravioli)
  • Cereal or Granola Bars
  • Cracker Packs
  • Fruit Cups
  • Jello or Pudding (non-refrigerated)
  • Macaroni & Cheese
  • Oatmeal or Grits packs
  • Trail mix
  • Instant rice (microwaveable)
  • Toiletries (especially deodorant)
The Demon Pantry is supported by your generosity. Please consider giving:
  • Your time to help shop & stock Demon Pantry shelves
  • Grocery gift cards in any amount from Costco, Food Lion, Harris Teeter, Wal-Mart (bring to Student Services office)
  • $100 to sponsor a student for a semester
  • Cash or checks (for our volunteer shoppers to fill pantry needs) – send to Centenary UMC with RJR Demon Pantry in the memo line (646 W. 5th St., 27101).
