TEXAS CLAY: 2020 VISION
January12-February 22, 2020
San Antonio Art League
Call for Entries is underway!
Clay can be dirt in the wrong hands, but clay can be art in the right hands.
Lupita Nyong'o

San Antonio Art League members are invited to submit 20” x 20” two-dimensional wall pieces in all media to compliment the clay and ceramic pieces created by the San Antonio Potters’ Guild for this unique collaborative exhibition.

Entry Fee: $10 for up two entries, submitted online through EntryThingy

JUROR:
Paula Owen, President and CEO at Southwest School of Art

Awards:
$500 Best of Show
$200 Award of Merit
$100 Honorable Mention

Artworks should express the theme of clay as a concept or as a literal medium for example, a painting of a broken clay pot, an abstract watercolor of earth-hued strata, a mixed-media paper mosaic, a 20x20" fiber art wall piece, a photograph of potters’ hands within the confines of a 20 x 20 x 2” canvas or equivalent.

FAQs:

Why does the size have to be 20 x 20" ?

The Art League and the Potters Guild want to bring a sense of visual consistency to this exhibit and to challenge the artists to create within a pre-set spatial range. And, of course, the virtual required measurements celebrate the year 2020!

Can my artwork be smaller if it is in a 20"x20" frame?

Yes.

Where can I find a 20x20 substrate?

Many art stores, both online and brick-and-mortar, carry this size in both stretched canvas and birch panel. You may also create your own 20 x20" substrate - for example, a 20x20" Masonite panel could be adhered to an 18x18" stretched canvas which would be used as the hanging support.

Can Art League members collaborate with Potters Guild members?

Yes. You may work with a ceramic artist to make wall pieces and 3-D pieces that compliment each other. There is no guarantee that the juror will pick both pieces, but collaboration is definitely encouraged.

What if I am not an Art League Member?

You are welcome to join on our website. Membership includes many benefits, including an opportunity show in our Members Gallery and Gift Shop.

If I am a member of both the Art League and the Potters' Guild, can I submit to both Calls for Entry?

Absolutely. Here is the link to the Potters' Guild submission form.

What else do I need to know?

All accepted wall-hung works must be professionally finished and ready for hanging. Weight should not exceed 15 pounds for safety. See the exhibit calendar, above, for dates and deadlines. THE SUBMISSION DEADLINE IS DECEMBER 12, 2020. It will be here before we know it.

All entries will be submitted by digital photographs on EntryThingy.

Feel free to forward this call for entry to friends.
