If a record turnout at the NZMOA Annual Marina & Boatyard Conference is an expression of our industry’s optimism and confidence, then it’s clear we have a bright future.

100 attendees, more than any other conference, travelled to Northland for the September event.

With a theme of ‘regeneration’, the event included two days of conference, a day long coached tour of existing and new operations across Northland , as well as the presentation of the annual NZMOA Marina of the Year Awards for 2019.

Thank you to all those involved and again any other feedback on the event or future ones please let us know.

Chris Galbraith
Chair, NZMOA

Like all great events, this one would not be possible without our sponsors. Thank you to all those that hosted and informed us across the three days.

Hon Shane Jones, Minister of Economic Development (pictured, left), connected us with the Provincial Growth Fund and reminded us of the role that marine infrastructure plays in the economic development of the regions in our island nation. The Minister highlighted the projects already supported by this fund in Northland, including the new superyacht facilities at Bay of Islands Marina, and indicated support for future projects including Whakatane and Port Tarakohe. Conveniently, he was able to inspect the finished pontoons on Russell Wharf and progress on Paihia Wharf just prior to announcing the winners of the NZMOA Marina Awards at The Duke.

Membership resolves to increase member services

NZMOA’s Annual General Meeting was an opportunity to reflect on the association’s aspirations for the future.

Chair Chris Galbraith highlighted the executive’s desire to invest in membership services and meet the growing demand for support. He noted that it was a real positive that members are reaching out for additional and improved services and that the Association needed to be responsive to these. This challenge is not always able to be met by the dedicated volunteer executive team and that additional external support is required. There was wide support for this endeavour and members were in agreement to fund the required support through retained earnings this year, and budgeted for in the future.

Member subscriptions were increased for the first time in ten years by $100 to a base fee of $500 (plus a per berth rate for marina members). Members will receive their invoices, and membership certificates, this next week.
