A message from the PTSA President

Dear Woodmoor Families.

What a great week we had. I want to thank the parents that volunteered on September 17th. There are around 800 Woodmoor students, and Picture Day would not be successful without your help. Woodmoor is really lucky to be in such a supportive community. Thank you to everyone that helped out.

Wednesday, we kicked off the start of our Fall Fundraiser. This year we are doing something different. The grade that brings in the most money (per student, so that it is fair), will get a Pizza Party! Money raised from our fall fundraiser supports many budgeted items, including scholarships to our after school enrichment classes, classroom grants, and our Art Docent program to name a few. If your child’s online account for this fundraiser has not been set up, please take a moment to help set up your child’s account and distribute the link to friends and family and help support our school and PTSA programs.

I would also like to take this moment to announce that September 15^th - October 15^th is national Hispanic Heritage Month. In 1968, President Lyndon B Johnson signed into law Hispanic Heritage Week, which was later expanded to Hispanic Heritage Month under President Reagan in 1988. I want to reach out to Woodmoor’s Hispanic Community, and ask their help in sharing the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. Please email me with these histories and stories so that we can share with our greater Woodmoor Community.

Lastly, I would like to spotlight two roles still needed to be filled. The first is for Communications Editor. Mari Swift has been an amazing addition to PTSA, but this is her last year at Woodmoor. This role is another good one for parents that want to help out, but can not come in during school hours. The second role is that of Emergency Prep Chair. We have two parents able to help the E-Prep chair, so this role would be fully supported. Please email me if you are interested or want to learn more about either role.

Note: Over the summer, some families requested that we schedule general meetings on Saturdays. We’re going to try it out and have scheduled the November meeting on a Saturday.

It's Fall Fundraiser time!

We've started our fall fundraiser and your involvement is needed more than ever! Money raised from this fundraiser directly impacts your child by providing education beyond strict fundamentals. The proceeds raised will help support science programs, after school clubs, Watch D.O.G.S., family events, movie nights and much more.

Please know that your assistance this year will make a huge difference! Take just a moment to visit the web site where you can easily share your fundraiser with friends and family! Thank you in advance for your participation in the fundraiser!

Sept 18 - Oct 11: Fall Fundraiser

Learn more about our legislative priorities and enhance your skills in grassroots advocacy.

This year is the second year of our platform, so the business before the delegates will include discussion and debate on issues to add to the "also supported" list, long term principles, and resolutions.

This is also a great chance for students to see advocacy first-hand and to participate in the process if they are designated as a delegate.

Registration will be opening soon. Please contact Dawn Olmsted if you’re interested in attending as a voting delegate. Reimbursement for registration cost is available for a limited number of attendees

The process regarding Highly Capable Eligibility for current Northshore students has changed slightly for the 2019-2020 school year. Universal screening will occur for grades K, 1, and 5. In all other grades, students will be screened only if parents complete a permission to participate waiver, which is currently available online through October 25. For full details and updates, refer to NSD's Highly Capable Services page.

We have become aware of spam/phishing emails that claim to be from someone representing Woodmoor PTSA. The messages ask the recipient to purchase expensive gift cards for the PTSA. If you receive an email like this, please report it as spam and delete it. While we occasionally ask for donations for events like Bingo Night, we do so through this newsletter, our web site, or our Facebook page, not through individual emails.
