NEW PLAYGROUNDS
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED

It's been a good summer for our parks! Evelyn 200 trees have fared well with a good mix of sunshine and rain. All the benches and picnic benches have been installed in Deptford Park & Folkestone Gardens. These are very well used. The bigger fox-proof bins in Deptford Park have reduced litter in the park.

DeptfordFolk are gradually ticking off the list of improvements identified in the 2016 Park user survey.

YOUR help is needed to keep improving the parks. Read on to find out how...
Earlier this year Lewisham Council launched their new Greening Fund in Deptford Park. Thank you to everyone who got in touch with ideas.

GOOD NEWS!
DeptfordFolk's application to the Greening Fund was successful. DeptfordFolk applied for:
Drinking fountains in Deptford Park & Folkestone Gardens. The fountains will have water bottle fillers and dog bowls.

Bins for Folkestone Gardens. To accompany the benches designed and produced by local manufacturers AJ&B funded by Veolia.

Benches & Bins for Sayes Court Park. This has been a regular request from residents for a few years. As a constituted group DeptfordFolk was able to apply for this investment in a nearby local park.
In other good news for Sayes Court Park local residents have come together to constitute a park user group for the park.
Come along to the Inaugural General Meeting of the Friends of Sayes Court Park.

NEW PLAYGROUNDS
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED

You can help get Playgrounds for Folkestone Gardens & Sayes Court Park using £500k Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy (NCIL) that has been allocated to the Evelyn Ward. Community infrastructure levy (CIL) is a charge that developers pay to councils to ensure communities see the benefit of regeneration in their neighbourhoods.

Lewisham Council has developed a new approach to spending NCIL. Read more about this HERE.

The sheer scale of development in this area means there is £500,000 to spend in Evelyn.

Residents can influence how this is spent.
Folkestone Gardens (left) and Sayes Court Park (Right) playgrounds are dangerous, dilapidated and empty after years of under-investment.
Child poverty in the Evelyn Ward has risen to 49%. Half of children in this area live in poverty. Our playgrounds are terrible and young people, who are the largest demographic in this area, deserve better. Many children do not go on summer holidays or get to go to after school clubs. Children need safe places where they can interact with their peers, play, learn and have fun. Parks and green spaces matter.

This is how you can help:
  1. Go to the Commonplace map for the Evelyn Ward
  2. Drop a pin on the Folkestone Gardens Playground and ask for a top class playground.
  3. Drop a pin on the Sayes Court Park Playground and ask for a top class playground.
  4. Drop a pin on the Deptford Park Playground and ask for maintenance work and new equipment.
  5. Tell all your friends to do the same

Playgrounds don't just benefit children and their families. A superb playground brings visitors to the area. Visitors spend money in shops and cafes boosting the local economy.

They advocate for better transport routes. Children who have the opportunity to play and learn outside can develop lifelong friendships with their peers. Families in parks make the space feel safer and parks become safer.

Evelyn's current play provision is shameful. Lewisham residents in the most deprived ward should not have to rely on Southwark and Greenwich to provide safe play opportunties.

We deserve better. Please drop pins for playgrounds on the map. Let's ensure a lasting legacy for NCIL in Deptford.
