Paying users and an employee!

While away on my wonderful retreat by the coast last weekend, I couldn't help but think of this week with some dread.

Not only would I have to catch up on tasks from the week before, my calendar was filling up with 1:1 calls with paying testers, and I still needed to deliver the first set of features that they were expecting come October 1st.

I thought to myself: maybe it's time I had a little bit of help?

And while thinking about who'd be able to jump on board quickly and effectively, I realised the answer was in front of me in the form of one of my favourite Bookstagrammers:

So I reached out and Abbie responded with an enthusiastic 'yes'! 💪🏾

For the next week or two, she'll be helping me with user book requests and improving the current website database.

I went back and forth on whether paying for help was premature at this stage of the business, but trying this out will give me the headspace to think about long-term strategy, and will give both Abbie and myself a chance to see if this arrangement makes sense.

After all, the subscription money I'm going to receive will fund this help, so I'm re-investing revenue in order to improve the user experience.

That's good business practice, right? 😁

Last week

I had the first couple of pre-trial consultation calls with my paying members crew. I'm so excited to work with them to shape The StoryGraph's roadmap on our journey to product/market fit.

One tester sold a trial to a friend who hadn't even heard of us yet (Thanks so much, R.). 😍

The most exciting update on the product front came in the form of the profile page:

This week

The main focus will be getting ready for the subscriptions that will kick in come October 1st.

And I have to be laser focused and productive in order to afford my ritual of not working on my birthday!

Tomorrow will consist of reflection, reading, finally finishing Season 3 of Stranger Things, book shopping (naturally!), and good food. 😌
What I'm reading right now

I've been wanting to read this for a while but have finally forced myself to start since I'm going to an event in London with Oyinkan Braithwaite on October 10th. If you're in town, come along!

Have a great week,

Nadia

P.S. If you know a friend who's an avid mood reader or would enjoy following along with this journey, please do forward this email to them! Thank you very much. 😊
