Remote Tower Updates
Hello <<First Name>>,

It's that time again when the fire department will be conducting it's tri-annual full-scale exercise October 1st! This is a live-fire exercise that they are required by the FAA to perform every 3 years. They are in desperate need of actor/victims.  They need as many "victims" as possible.

Check-in is at 8:00 am at the snow removal building just south of the fire station. Parking will be at the terminal and signs will be posted for directions.

The event will start promptly at 9:00. Please contact Gina Gonzales ASAP so that she can order enough lunches for the volunteers. The exercise will be from 9:00 to 1:00.

Please think about taking the morning and volunteering for this valuable experience. If interested contact Gina Gonzales at 970-568-6026 or email her at gina.gonzales@lfra.org

Townhall meeting - *Note the time change of 6:30 instead of 7:00

  • Location: FNL jetCenter Hangar
  • Date: September 26
  • Time: 6:00 for light food.  Presentations will start at 6:30
We have quite the lineup this year!  We're going to kick off with a short presentation from Airport Management as well as the consultants creating the Airport Master Plan.  This is a critical time for feedback and input into this effort as it will guide priorities for the next decade or longer.  I can't stress enough that pilot feedback is critical in this process.

Secondly, the remote tower is nearing its launch phase.  This will be the last major meeting we'll have regarding the operation of the tower and the transition to controlled airspace.  Join us to discuss how the latest efforts and timelines will affect us over the next few months.

We'll also be joined once again by David Ulane, Colorado Division of Aeronautics Director to discuss the latest at the State level.
British Red Arrows Visit September 16th - 18th
The United Kingdom's Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team will be at Rocky Mountain Metro. They will put on a shortened exhibit as they travel through Colorado.

Call for Volunteers - Jeneal McKinley
We are searching for volunteers.  With our recent change in officers, we have need to backfill the Vice-President role.  Howard Abraham, who has served the organization for many years, has also announced he'd like to step down from being Treasurer.

We are also looking for various volunteers to fill in as needed. For instance, sitting up and tearing down of chairs and tables for the refresher courses. You don't have to do it every month. It can be as simple as a signup sheet and you volunteer for just setting up say at the March meeting. Or maybe you can do both setup and tear down in January. Or maybe you can pick up the sandwiches. We aren't asking for a huge commitment just a helping hand here and there.

If you would be interested, please contact James Hays.

Airport Updates

Badge Renewal
It's time to renew badges. If you can not reapply prior to October 31st please let the airport staff know so that they can make the appropriate arrangements and hold your badge.  Non-renewed badges will be disabled shortly after this date in order to comply with Airport security.

It's been acknowledged that most users are doing a great job preventing tailgaters and unauthorized access through the gates.  As always, remember to wait for gate closure before continuing to drive in or out of the airport.

Remote Tower - Updated Timeline and Go-Live Date
Starting in the October/November timeframe, you'll start to see a lot more activity with the Remote Tower.  The mobile tower will be moving in shortly and will begin monitoring and training local ATC.  During this time, they may be offering advisories on frequency before they are actively controlling traffic.  We can also expect some taxiway NOTAMS in the near future as taxiway and runway markings are updated to denote movement areas.
** We'll be discussing this in depth at our Townhall meeting on Thursday, September 26th at the FNL jetCenter hangar

Master Plan Update
The Airport Master Plan is in active development.  This month, we have two opportunities to offer feedback and comments regarding the master plan.  On Thursday, September 19, 2019, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, a public open house will be held at the Fort Collins Senior Center, Prairie Sage Room, at 1200 Raintree Drive, Fort Collins, CO 80526.  We will also have a short presentation and discussion at our Townhall meeting on Thursday, September 26th at the FNL jetCenter hangar.

If you'd like the latest and greatest news, please visit the FlyNoCo.com Master Plan Website for the latest information.  The next open house regarding the Master Plan is looking to be in either September or October.  We'll send out additional information as it becomes available.  Click here to submit feedback on the master plan.
