What does it mean to be a “disciple”?  The Webster’s 1928 dictionary says this: DISCIPLEnoun [Latin, to learn.]
1. A learner; a scholar; one who receives or professes to receive instruction from another; as the disciples of Plato.
2. A follower; an adherent to the doctrines of another. Hence the constant attendants of Christ were called His disciples; and hence all Christians are called His disciples, as they profess to learn and receive His doctrines and precepts.

DISCIPLEverb transitive
1. To teach; to train, or bring up.
2. To make disciples of; to convert to doctrines or principles.
This authority He employed in sending missionaries to disciple all nations.

As a Christ Follower our hope is to become both.  Our goal ought to be both.  The desire from the Holy Spirit is to become both.
We want to become a learner of what God is teaching us through His Word, the Bible.  It continues as we listen to His Word being taught and discussed in healthy environments.  As we learn more about Jesus, we want to become disciplers

Part of the process includes:

  • Transformation and repentance, making God your priority (Mark 8:34-38)
  • Learning the written Word of God and living by it with commitment (John 8:31-32)
  • Loving, edifying, and serving others as God leads (1 John 3:11-16)
  • Focusing on living righteously, being fruitful (John 15:7-10, Galatians 5:22)
  • Accountability with Godly authority (Hebrews 13:17)
  •
Foundational Values of Discipleship are:
  • Evangelism (sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ) (Matthew 28:18-20)
  • Being changed by renewing your mind (Romans 12:2)
  • Worshipping God in all you do (Romans 12:1)
  • Serving God toward His purpose (Romans 1:9)
  • Demonstrating to the world the power given to us by the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:7-11; 2 Peter 1:3-8)

Where are you now? Where do you want to be in 6 months?  In a year?  How will you reach this goal?
In what ways do you need to improve in following through?  What do you need to remove from your life to become closer to Jesus?
Over the next 6 months we will be focusing on discipleship as leadership to improve the culture around us and be more like Jesus.
To live and love like Jesus.

Congratulations to Amber Horner. She was baptized in September!

Commission Coffee Corner
Every Sunday, coffee is ready at the Commission Coffee Corner before worship and ABF Classes. Coffee is free, but as you fill your cup, you may notice a jar for donations on the counter. Your donations support a different mission organization each month that is working to bring the good news to all corners of the world.

Dawn Farris
Children & Family Ministries

I was recently reading in Numbers and came across the account of when the Israelites were in the desert without any water. Scripture says, "Now there was no water for the community, and the people gathered in opposition to Moses and Aaron." The first response to the people of God was to gather to grumble, to complain, and to oppose.

Contrast this to Moses and Aaron: "Moses and Aaron went from the assembly to the entrance to the tent of meeting and fell down and the glory of the Lord appeared to them." When they came to God, He appeared to them and gave them the instruction they needed to provide water for the people.

Both groups of people had a first response. Both groups were God's people. They just weren't both acting like it.

As we focus on prayer, let's focus on our first response to the situations and people around us. What is our first response? What kind of first responder are we? A first responder's goal is to be first on the spot to bring help and assistance. We can only do that when our first response is to go to God for the direction and strength only He can provide.

If you are looking for a distraction free, quiet place to connect with God please  join us each week for a prayer and worship time on Sunday nights from 6pm to 7pm.

                              A Magical Fall Family XP

HiSKidZ and their families had a great time at the September XP. TJ Regul, the Quad City Magician, did some great tricks, but left us with the important reminder that God is changing us all. By transforming a lump of coal into "diamonds," TJ taught us that God can take us where ever we are and change us into who He wants and needs us to be for His kingdom.
Our next XP will be December 22!

Join us Sunday, October 27 at 4pm in the MPB. BYOP-- Bring your own pumpkin(s) and some tools for decorating or carving. Some supplies will be available. Invite a family you know to join the fun. Snacks, drinks and PRIZES will be provided!!

Invite a family you know to join the fun!

NTCC's Youth Programming, TheLoft, for grades 6-12, exists to  EQUIP ( bible study, acts of service, evangelism), and ENCOURAGE (prayer, fellowship, discipleship) students towards a LIFE CHANGING,CHRIST CENTERED LIFE.

Greetings from the Loft,

God is good and has blessed us abundantly. We are starting our fall season at the Loft with one of our largest group of students. There is still room for more so be sure to invite and encourage any junior or senior high student to attend our Wednesday and Sunday programming.

On October 3rd is "Bring Your Bible to School Day" and we'd like to encourage all families to participate.  This is a great opportunity to be bold in our faith and inspire opportunities for people to ask questions about the Bible. Another fun event is our Junior High Fall Retreat that will be at LaMoine Christian Service Camp November 1st & 2nd. It is for grades 6-8, both boys and girls, and is only $10! Such a great deal to experience the camp one more time before winter.

We are still in need of help during our Sunday morning program. We are looking for volunteers that are a member of the church, confident in Bible knowledge, have a heart for youth.  This area of service will be during our 9am service. It will provide us the opportunity to split up our growing Jr and Sr High groups. If interested please let me know.

As always we are thankful for your prayers and all that you do to support the Loft and the Church on Hilton Road.

Your brother in Christ,
Calvin Stevens

Dear NTCC Family,

I want to thank NTCC for supporting KCA!
In the last few months it has been great to see several KCA students at children’s and youth ministry events. NTCC members should also know that at least a few of the baptisms that we have had recently are students who have attended KCA or parents of KCA alumni. It is a privilege to see the way that KCA’s mission to teach “respect for biblical authority” and “develop the whole child” can make an eternal difference in the lives of individuals and families.

Next, I do want to encourage everyone to purchase the 2019 Discount Card for $10! Buy several and share them with your family. They help people save a lot of money at local businesses and make great gifts!

As a final note, on Friday, October 18 our high school students will spend a day serving at Love Packages. This is an amazing ministry that sends gospel-centered materials all over the world! If you have material that you would like to donate to Love Packages, drop it by the school and we will deliver it for you!

Finally, I want to encourage all NTCC families to connect with the school. If you haven’t seen the school in operation, stop by during the day for a tour. You might be able to get reacquainted with what we do or you may just see something that helps you persuade new families to join our program!

Sunday Night Prayer

Join New Testament Christian Church on Sunday nights, from 6pm to 7pm, for a time of prayer. This service focuses on seeking our God together as the Church through singing, scripture reading, and praying in groups, with a friend, or by yourself. For more information, please see an NTCC staff member.

Small Groups are currently meeting at various locations throughout the tri-state area. Spiritual growth continually occurs in small group cultures, and we encourage every member of NTCC to plug into a group or ABF.

God uses small group studies to help us BELIEVE, BELONG and BECOME all He desires for us as His body.  Small groups are a great way to connect and be a part of what God is doing in lives here at NTCC.
