European mailing list launched for housing reporters

Dataharvest - the European Investigative Journalism Conference - focused on the issue of housing this year, which has resulted in a pan-European mailing list where reporters from all parts of the continent share data, facts and inspiration. At the time of writing, the latest 3 posts were from Albania (on discrimination in the housing market), Finland (mapping and visualizing of rent prices) and Spain (on the connection between AirBnB and rising prices on housing). 20 crossborder grantees come to Dataharvest & EIJC
Up to 20 journalists can get a grant to learn how to work with cross-border methods, including a 4-day workshop in Germany and participation in the Dataharvest & EIJC Conference in May 2020. German Toepfer Stiftung is behind the initiative in cooperation with Arena for Journalism in Europe. The program is aimed at local and regional journalists, who want to work in collaborations over national and international borders, og both freelancers and staff members can apply. Read more

ICIJ interview: Journalists reconquer the Power of Publication

Arena director Brigitte Alfter has written a book with a step-by-step guide to crossborder journalism. The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) interviewed her about her experiences. Brigitte says:

"What unites us is one experience: The power of publication. Previously we had this on a national level. We could bring topics to the political agenda in the local or national realm. Today, we need to reach out far beyond that. In recent years we have started to see the full power of cross-border journalism. Global tax avoidance and fraud, for example, have been brought to the global political agenda through cross-border journalism projects.
