Advisory: Mayor to Ceremonially Sign Bills Adopting New Plumbing and Fire Codes
Furthers Philadelphia’s Commitment to Safer, Lower Cost, and More Sustainable Construction

WHAT: The Mayor will sign bills enacted this summer to update two important codes which set standards for plumbing and fire protection in new and existing structures in Philadelphia. Before the new codes, the Philadelphia Plumbing Code had not been significantly updated since 1995 and the Philadelphia Fire Code was a decade behind the most recent developments.

WHO:

  • Mayor Jim Kenney
  • Councilmember Maria D. Quiñones-Sánchez
  • David Perri, Commissioner, Department of Licenses and Inspections
  • Craig Murphy, Deputy Commissioner, Philadelphia Fire Department
  • Walter Krzyzanowski, Chair, Plumbing Advisory Board and Executive Director of Philadelphia Plumbers Union Local 690
  • John Kane, Business Manager, Plumbers Union Local 690
  • James Maransky, President, Building Industry Association of Philadelphia

WHEN: Today, Tuesday, September 17, 2019, 1 p.m.

WHERE: Mayor’s Reception Room, City Hall, Room 202, 1400 JFK Blvd., Philadelphia, PA 19107

DETAILS: Mayor Kenney re-established the Plumbing Advisory Board by Executive Order 6-17. Representatives from the fields of plumbing, development, design, and code enforcement sit on the Board. This bill signing recognizes the Board’s successful efforts to come together and develop a new Plumbing Code that incorporates modern provisions while retaining time-tested approaches that address Philadelphia’s specific needs. The event also recognizes the collaboration between L&I and the Fire Department that has brought the highest standards for fire protection into the Philadelphia Fire Code.
