Here’s what’s happening in New York City.
We’re getting a little taste of fall this week in NYC. With 16 Handles' new vegan fall flavors and the start of Oktoberfest, the time has arrived to start bidding summer adieu and dusting off our coats — to be honest, I have mixed feelings about it. Regardless of how you feel about the seasonal transition, we have all the amazing scoop on health and fitness happenings in NYC this week to ease the blow.

💪 Akin’s New AARMY
Though it isn’t officially launching until 2020, former tennis prodigy and SoulCycle instructor Akin Akman has debuted his new pop-up studio AARMY in NoHo. With his fitness methods and passionate “Akin’s Army” following, he co-founded his own studio, which will feature cycling, bootcamp, lifting, and stretching classes. Check out the “pop-up”—which might be the best designed, most complete pop-up we’ve ever seen—before the permanent installation hits NYC next year.

🍔 Justice For Veggie Burgers
Dirt Candy’s chef Amanda Cohen had a whole lot of negative opinions on veggie burgers until she recreated the ancient Chinese recipe for yuguanfei, which, by definition, is still basically a veggie burger patty. After tasting the masterpiece, she decided it was so delicious that she would build a new fast-casual veggie burger joint, Lekka (Afrikaans slang for ‘delicious’), focused on the dish. You’ll be able to taste the deliciousness for yourself this October when Lekka swings open in Tribeca.

🎉 P.volve Evolves
Model-loved Pilates-like training sensation P.volve is getting an even bigger, more permanent home in October. Their workouts focus on tiny movements that work small muscle groups to tone your body — a concept that fits right in with NYC’s already booming Pilates industry (more on that here). The new studio space will complement their boutique location in the Bowery, but this one will measure a whopping 6,700 square feet. Look out for the big opening in SoHo next month!

🍊 Adriatic Eats
Fans of wine bar Ruffian, watch out for nearby Kindred opening in the Village this fall. Though the restaurant will still offer many unique wines (with an emphasis on orange wines) like its sister concept, Kindred’s main focus will be on foods from the Adriatic Sea region, complete with tons of veggie options. Its doors will open up either later this month or early next, so keep an eye on their Instagram for updates!

🌸 Floral Paradise
Though both owners are Italian and the dishes are equally Italian, the main focus at Il Fiorista is flowers. They’re used as decorations around the restaurant as well as on all of Il Fiorista’s locally sourced dishes. You can expect tons of veggies and aesthetically pleasing creations at this just-opened Flatiron beauty — make sure to get one for the ’gram before you dig in!

🍁 Pumpkin Spice & Everything Nice
16 Handles is hopping onboard the fall train with their newest vegan flavor, Pumpkin Spice & Everything Nice. Made with cashew milk, this cold pumpkin-y treat is arguably the best way to transition from the summer heat to the fall cozy. The flavor launched a week ago, so scoop some up at any of their shops around NYC while the pumpkin trend is still fresh!

🥗 Just Salad x Beyond Beef
Just Salad is saying goodbye to steak and hello to plant-based meat. The popular lunch spot is removing grilled steak and adding Beyond Beef meatballs to their menu permanently. You can mix them up in your own salad creation or get them in Just Salad’s Keto Zoodle Bowl. Either way, Just Salad is already hand-rolling these balls at all of its NYC locations!

🇮🇹 In Other News
The Feast
It’s that time of year again — the time when Little Italy swarms with Italian-loving tourists and locals alike to celebrate Saint Januarius, just as the city’s original Italian immigrants did in 1926. There will be cannolis, deep-fried Oreos, and sausage ’n’ peppers galore flooding Mulberry St. through September 22 for the San Gennaro Feast. Brace yourselves for the impending Italian pastry bloat.
Prost!
Oktoberfest has officially hit NYC. Events started at Watermark Bar last weekend and will continue there every weekend for the next five weeks. Come for the giant pretzels and beer, and stay for the waterfront views.
