Anyone who has been knitting for any length of time tends to acquire bits and bobs of yarn ends in their stash. You know, the ones that are too long to throw out because you might find a project you can use it for someday.

Well, that project has arrived.

The Stash Potion Cowl and Scarf is designed to use three different combinations of fingering-weight and worsted-weight yarn held together and whip up fast with US 15/10.0 mm needles, so you can finally use up those bits without having to resort to patchwork or figure out the perfect arrangement of stripes. (Even the needle size is flexible if you don't have the exact right one.)

You can use all the same colour to make a solid scarf with shifting textures only, or play with mixing solids and variegated yarns or multiple variegated yarns, bringing in new ones as the old ball ends run out, for a colour-shifting design that's sure to please. The texture is simple, shifting between basketweave and seed stitch for a design that suits anyone.

Whip up a beautiful project for you or someone else this weekend and watch your stash disappear while you're doing it. No black magic required.

This is a test knit by Roberta Miller (modelled by her daughter Amanda) of the Stash Potion Cowl. To show you how versatile this pattern is, I had an error in the pattern that meant Roberta made it on needles several sizes too small—and the cowl still looks fabulous! Thanks for sharing, ladies!

Just Plain Hat pattern draft by Talena Winters
The Just Plain Hat design is almost ready to publish. I'm excited to add one more versatile basic accessory pattern to my "Just Plain" series, but especially excited for this one, as $2 from every purchase will go to ending slavery around the world. More details in my next newsletter.

Did you know?

The Stash Potion Cowl pattern uses simple stitches but slightly more challenging cast on and finishing options. Of course, like all my patterns, I include photo tutorials for special techniques right in the pattern, as well as links to online tutorials for techniques you may or may not know. But those tutorials are free for everyone!

Find online photo and video tutorials for the Provisional Cast On and Kitchener Stitch (plus lots more!) in the "Stitch Tutorial" section of my website.

Errata:

I noticed an error in stitch counts on the Just Plain Gloves this week. The error was on the Bulky Weight - Thumb section. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Ravelry customers should have received an updated file notification already. I am working on getting notifications sent out to everyone else by the end of the week. If you purchased this pattern and haven't received yours by Friday, please hit reply and let me know.
RichelleCk's Honey Tree Mittens

Featured FO:

RichelleCK made these Honey Tree mittens (and an adorable matching hat) a few years ago, and they're still going strong. She says, "They were a really fun knit and went fairly quickly! The fit is fantastic and I wear them a lot."

Post your project photos to Ravelry or tag me on social media using @talenawinters or hashtag #mswbtprojects for a chance to be featured.
