Here’s what’s happening in DC.
Head to the beach one last time this season — September 21 is International Coastal Cleanup day. All over the world, people will be collecting garbage in an effort to make our shorelines sparkle. You can join in at Kingman Island and then sit back and enjoy your hard work with a free picnic lunch. This and so much more is happening in the DC health and fitness scene this week — let’s dive in!

🍔 PLNT Power
Because you aren’t already spending enough money at Whole Foods — PLNT Burger is now open inside the Silver Spring store. The vegan restaurant is brought to us by Good Stuff Eatery’s chef Spike Mendelsohn, and he’s created a delicious line-up with a mission to create awareness on how what we eat impacts the world. Go for a Beyond Meat double-stack with vegan cheese and mushroom bacon served on a bun, bed of lettuce, or in a swiss chard wrap, and follow it up with oat milk soft serve in a gluten-free cone.

🚲 Bike Brigade
The car-free movement is taking DC by storm. First, there was the announcement of Open Streets DC on October 5, and now, we’re here to tell you this Sunday is World Car-Free Day. Take the weekend to enjoy the city from a different view — like the one on your bike coasting along Capital Crescent Trail. But no matter which of the city’s beautiful trails you choose, the fall breeze blowing in makes it the perfect time for a ride without all the sweat.

👗 #DoingThings
You already know Outdoor Voices holds regular runs to Chaia Tacos, but there’s a special event this Saturday that you just can’t miss. The athletic wear brand is going on tour in honor of its #1 best-seller: the exercise dress. So, what better way to celebrate than with a dance party? Head to The Yards Park and be ready to bust a move!

🥙 Good Eats
Komi may not be on your radar of go-to spots for a casual weekend bite (it features a $165 tasting menu), but for the month of October, we’re letting you know it should be. The Michelin-starred restaurant is temporarily turning into Happy Gyro, a vegetarian pop-up run by the same exact same chefs. For $60, the set seven-ish course menu will feature Greek favorites made meatless, including a promised plant-based gyro and all sorts of delicious veggie-filled plates.

🤘 Rock On
Thank goodness for gyms like Earth Treks, but we still think there’s a serious lack of places to get your climb on in DMV. Enter: Brooklyn Boulders. Yes, the NYC climbing gym is celebrating 10 years with a major expansion, including the opening of its first DC location in NoMa. Although it won’t be up and running until 2020, you can get excited knowing a bouldering and top-rope area, co-working space, and cafe are all in the works.

Giant Acorn Triathlon Festival
Lake Anna State Park is the perfect venue for a triathlon just outside of the city. A sandy beach start and a freshwater swim kicks off the course and leads into a rolling road bike course and a run route that stays within the park. Expect a ton of community support and look forward to a post-race celebration at the nearby Lake Anna Winery or Coyote Hole Cider Works after.
