International Walk & Roll to School Day
is on October 2

This is a global event that involves communities from more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day. It began in 1997 as a one-day event. Over time, this event has become part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school and a celebration – with record breaking participation – each October. Today, thousands of schools across America – from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico – participate every October.

This year for Lane school, rides are parent-led and are being organized at the neighborhood level.

There are lots of great reasons to be involved. We are actively recruiting neighborhood captains to organize, promote, and execute rides of all sizes. Just email markdavidbailey@gmail.com or click "send a message" on this signup to propose a ride and we'll create the signup.

Most rides will be morning only. Each group will need to arrange to pick up the bikes in the afternoon.

This program is inspired by this well-documented SRTS program in another district which includes this helpful guide

We will have information for Davis School soon!

The BEF Needs Your Help!
Hello, Bedford! Your friends at the Bedford Education Foundation hope you have been enjoying the back-to-school season! We know it's a very busy time, but we need your help to continue the work we have been doing to fund creative and innovative grants at ALL FOUR Bedford schools!  Please take a moment to read below to find out more about our board and committees. We are looking for new members, and we have roles for all schedules, though we have a particular need for general board members. Thank you for your consideration!

Lexington/Bedford Youth Hockey

Registration is Open for This Season of LBYH's Popular In-House program.

The program is for hockey players aged 5-10 years old.  1/2 ice games are Saturday mornings at Hayden rink in Lexington, in the same time block each week.  It is a great and fun way for new players to learn hockey, and advance their skills as they move towards travel hockey.  The season starts in late October and runs through early March, ending with a championship tournament and end-of-season program banquet for all the players.  Good sportsmanship, fair play, and having fun are primary objectives of the program.

Registration is also open for the "Intro to In-house/Learn to Play" clinics.   These are skills-based clinics run by LBYH coaches to help new players learn the basics of the game and develop their skills.  It is recommended any In-House players without prior skating experience also attend the clinics.  There are two sessions available.

Both programs are very popular and registrations will fill up quickly.  Registration for in-house will be closing sometime in late September, once the max number of kids are signed up.

For more details and information about the programs and to register, please go to the LBYH website and select the "Register Online" option.

The Rotary Club of Bedford is currently seeking student exchange host families for the 2019-2020 school year!

The Rotary Club of Bedford is currently seeking student exchange host families for the 2019-2020 school year! We have one inbound student this year and are looking for families to host him during his stay.

By hosting a Youth Exchange student in your home, you’ll make a young person’s dream come true, and you and your family will share an unforgettable and fulfilling experience!

As a host family, you will:
  • Provide room and board for 3-4 months
  • Supervise the student just as you would your own children
  • Involve the student in family activities and chores
  • Enrich the exchange experience by including the student in family, community, and cultural activities
Please forward this to any friends and family who may be interested in hosting.
For more information, answers to your questions, or to volunteer as a host family, please contact: Dianne Bridgeman at dmbridge12@gmail.com

Rite? Right? Riot? Write?
You Write the Story, We’ll Watch the Spelling!

The Bedford Citizen seeks reporters for our online newspaper.

You would attend local meetings, usually in the evening, and write about what happened. You will learn about town government, receive editorial guidance as needed, and be paid $70 per meeting. Plus you will help your neighbors learn about our town and be better-informed citizens.

You must be able to write clearly with a rapid turnover. The work schedule is flexible, based on your needs and the Town’s schedule.

To apply, please send your letter of interest and contact information to TheBedfordCitizen@gmail.com.
