¡Bienvenido a Chile!
“This project is an important step in sharing our expertise in a new market.”

MAB Powertec will be part of a pilot project on district heating at the Isla Teja campus of Austral University, in Valdivia, Chile. Valdivia is located at the junction of three rivers in central Chile, approximately 840 km south of Santiago. The aim of this pilot project is to replace the university’s building-specific diesel boilers with district heating networks, which will be a turning point in the heat production.

In Chile, district heating has currently become of great interest for heating buildings, as cities in particular suffer from poor air quality caused by fine particles. An immense part of these fine particles originates from the burning wood that is used for heating single-family homes. Valdivia is one of the twelve cities involved in a joint Initiative by the Chilean government, the UN, and the Chilean Industry Federation SOFOFA to identify suitable pilot sites for district heating networks to improve air quality in the country.

Marko Borg, CEO and Project Manager at MAB Powertec, sees the project in Chile as a good continuation to the company’s active internationalization: “Being able to bring our expertise for the heat generation in Chile and operating as the engineering provider for the project are important steps in not only strengthening our international presence but also sharing our know-how in a new market.”

MAB Powertec’s experts have long been active outside of Finland and we are a trusted partner in international projects. Tuomo Renkonen from MAB Powertec has been the engineering manager in a power plant project in Japan. In addition, Jouni Hämäläinen, our quality management expert, has overseen the delivery of power plants in Portugal and Denmark.

MAB Powertec is helping in
reducing air pollution
Greenhouse gas emissions in Finland have decreased in recent years, and this positive change is largely due to advances in technology.

As the emission limits become stricter, various technical methods are used to control power plant emissions. Flametech Oy is developing a high-quality and compact SNCR technology, especially for the control of nitrogen oxides in incinerators. The SNCR technology (Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction) reduces nitrogen oxide emissions (NOx) from combustion, reducing air pollution significantly. MAB Powertec Oy has been working with Flametech Oy since the beginning, planning and designing the system concept development since last winter.

Riku Nurminen, entrepreneur in Flametech Oy, describes the technology that has been designed especially for power and heating plants, as well as for suppliers of boiler plants and environmental systems: “We have developed and now offer a cost-effective NOXdropTM system as a uniquely comprehensive service concept from plant combustion tuning to furnace measurements and system deliveries. The SNCR system itself can be purchased or rented. Contact us if your facility needs skilled professionals to control and minimize NOx -emissions!”

MAB Powertec's autumn development day

As our team grows and the workload increases, it is important to take some time to reflect on common values.

In early September, a development day was organized for MAB Powertec's employees in Lempäälä, and the day's program included teamwork, training as well as outdoor activities (and feeding sheep, of course). In teams, the employees were asked to discuss their own and shared values, as well as reflect on the company's vision and mission. MAB Powertec's team has grown rapidly in the last year, and it is of great importance for us to consider all our employees and reflect on our values and purpose together. As key takeaways of the development day, we got some new energy and great ideas for our work in the autumn!
MAB Powertec wishes you an excellent beginning of autumn!
