Unlocking new agriculture investment in the north

This month, the Cooperative Research Centre for Developing Northern Australia announced a project to unlock new investment in the north’s agriculture sector. Working in partnership with PwC and Austrade, the project will bring together key investors and stakeholders with an interest in northern agriculture.

Technology Innovation Complex

The Northern Australia Infrastructure Fund continues to push ahead. 

Construction of the James Cook University Technology Innovation Complex reached a significant milestone. An agreement between the Queensland Government and the university signals the green light to undertake detailed design work on the project.

National resource sector awards

On the 5-6 September, the 15th annual Aboriginal Enterprises in Mining, Energy and Exploration Ltd conference was held in Darwin.

Winners for the 2019 New Indigenous Business of the Year and others were announced at the event.

Kimberley Economic Forum

25 - 27 September 

The Forum is a partnership between the Chambers of Commerce in the East Kimberley, Derby and Broome. The event will shine a light on the key economic drivers in the Kimberley region and local business.

Delegates will explore how to best capitaise on agricultural and mining industries, their future prospects and potential growth.

Flood support

The North Queensland Livestock Industry Recovery Agency will assist with the immediate response, recovery and reconstruction efforts to support communities affected by heavy rainfall and widespread flooding in early 2019.

HOT North

Led by Menzies School of Health Research in Darwin, HOT North has funded 83 health research projects, fellowships and scholarships through a collaborative program involving 8 of Australia’s leading health research organisations.

Chickpeas in the north

Andrew Dickson, a farmer from Richmond in NSW, took a leap of faith when he planted an experimental crop of chickpeas.

The crop sprouted 3 varieties of chickpeas - Kyabra, HatTrcik and Drummond - and it is estimated to have a harvest size of up to 6000 tones.
