Dear <<First Name>>,

The Catena Zapata family are the pioneers of not just Mendoza, but arguably, quality Argentinian wine. The depth and breadth of their range is astonishing, as is the quality but the wine that lends its name to the figure head is the Cabernet Sauvignon. A wine of incredible depth and quality that really comes into its own as it ages.

We are delighted to offer the most recent release the superb Catena 2016 Nicolás Catena Zapata. It is the Estate’s flagship wine and this year has been awarded 95 points from James Suckling.

This top cuvee is only produced the in the very best vintages and with a production run of only c.5000 cases. One for the cellar or investment consideration with the 2009 currently selling at £98 per bottle (IB).
Jancis Robinson
"As Nicolás Catena, arguably the most prominent Argentine wine producer on the world stage, put it to me recently, the key to maximising Argentina’s special qualities as they pertain to wine lies in the measurement of, believe it or not (and photochemists will easily), microeinsteins per square metre.
It is all about harnessing the extraordinary intensity of sunlight in Argentina to micro-manage phenolics and produce the optimum quality of wine."
The Catena Zapata family's mission is to make profound and unforgettable wines; wines that reflect the special character of each vine within the family's historic vineyards. Constantly pushing the viticultural envelope, Nicolás and Laura Catena have identified Mendoza's best microclimates, selected the highest quality Malbec vines and pioneered viticulture in undiscovered regions - the Adrianna Vineyard at almost 5,000 feet elevation in the Andean foothills.

The inaugural 1997 vintage of this Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec blend set a new standard of quality for wines from South America when it won a series of blind tastings against other prestigious cuvées from around the world.
Luis Guiterrez (Wine Advocate)
"Catena is almost equivalent to Argentine quality wine, as Nicolas Catena was the true pioneer and is still the most important wine personality in Argentina. Bodega Catena Zapata has been owned by the Catena family since 1902"

Bodegas Catena Zapata

Great wines begin in the vineyard...

Over the years, Nicolas Catena discovered the influence altitude has on fruit quality. As one climbs the altitudes of the Andes the average temperature decreases and the amplitude between day and night temperatures increases. This environment provides the ideal climate for grape maturation. Our vineyard management team has also made significant discoveries into the effects of irrigation on quality. Through the careful use of irrigation, we are able to manipulate the growth tendencies of each vine, forcing them to direct their resources to the maturation of a limited number of clusters. The extremely low rainfall in Mendoza allows us to take full advantage of controlled irrigation. One of our most rewarding projects has been the 1989 restoration of Angélica, our 60 year old Malbec vineyard in Lunlunta. Malbec, which was Nicolás' father Domingo's favorite varietal, flourishes in Argentina as nowhere else in the world

Nicolás Catena Zapata

Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec blend

Nicolás Catena Zapata is made from a selection of the best lots of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec in the Catena Zapata Vineyards. The first Nicolás Catena Zapata was made in 1997, a phenomenal Cabernet Sauvignon vintage in Mendoza. The 1997 Nicolás Catena Zapata was released in 2000 through a series of blind tastings held in the USA and Europe where it was compared blind to Chateau Latour, Haut Brion, Solaia, Caymus and Opus One. The Nicolás Catena Zapata 1997 came in either first or second in every tasting.

This wine is only produced in outstanding vintage years.

"This a rich and flavorful red, showing blackcurrants and tobacco. Full-bodied, soft and fruity with bright and spicy, oyster-shell and fresh-herb character. Serious cabernet blend.
