Join us at the Education Hub as we take a deep dive into the upcoming holiday season.

In addition to our usual, Introduction to Judaism class, this terms sees some of our most senior rabbis teaching about the upcoming High Holy Days.

    Travail and Triumph: Maternal cries in the sound of the Shofar (Rabbi Mark Solomon)
  • Wednesday 2 October: Only a week to go... Repent now! Customs and meanings between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur (Rabbi Dr Andrew Goldstein)

SELICHOT CONCERT

 

Saturday 21 September


Join Cantor Tamara Wolfson and an array of NPLS vocal and instrumental talent for a High Holy Day themed concert.

The program will explore music that tugs at our heartstrings and prepares us spiritually for the Days of Awe, including some familiar Selichot favourites, some Yiddish classics, and some music that may be new but might still sound like it was sung at Sinai! Featuring the NPLS choir, the NPLS One Voice ensemble, and some incredible congregational musicians including Nelly Ben-Or on piano and Jennie Kirk on flute.

PREPARING FOR THE HIGH HOLIES

Don't miss the final session of our High Holy Days Teacher Training series.

Log in from the comfort of your home to join Karen Ettinger of the National Library of Israel. She will be a fascinating collection of antique and modern shanah tovah cards from the Library's collection to take us on a journey through Jewish communities and politics. These resources will all be available to download and use in the classroom after the session.

Food Sustainability & Poverty Panel

The Liberal Jewish Synagogue invites you to join them for a panel discussion about food sustainability & poverty followed by their Selichot service.

The panel features: Geraldine van Bueren QC, Professor of International Human Rights Law at QMUL and visiting Fellow at Oxford; Dr Anna Isaacs, Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Centre for Food Policy at City University; and Garry Lemon, Director of Policy, External Affairs and Research at the Trussell Trust.

JVN Volunteer Recruitment Training

Work with your peers to create practical ideas for recruiting, inducting, engaging and supporting volunteers in your organisation, taking into account the volunteers' needs and your own.

YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID TRAINING

 

Wednesday 30 October & 6 November

 
Join us for two evenings of training by Jami, after which you will be a certified Youth Mental Health First Aider. 

The course is the gold standard in equipping you to provide a ‘first aid response’ to children and adolescents in distress. You will learn about a variety of mental health conditions, treatments currently in use and increase your confidence in supporting young people.

Note: You must attend both sessions to complete the course.

Chizuk (meaning emotional or spiritual support or encouragement) is incredible leadership programme for students from PJS. As part of the programme PJS will teach and support you in how to create your own Progressive Jewish student communities on campus. The programme has grants for personal developments, as well as grants to fund events on campus.
