We’re kicking off our inaugural season at
LMCC's Arts Center at Governors Island this weekend
and you’re invited!

Beginning Thursday, September 19,
LMCC’s Arts Center at Governors Island is open to the public Thursdays through Sundays!

LMCC's Arts Center at Governors Island, the first permanent home for artists and audiences on Governors Island, opens this Thursday, September 19 through October 31. Gallery hours are Thursday - Sunday, 12pm-5pm.

Work created and presented at the Arts Center focuses on ecology, sustainability and resilience related to Governors Island and New York City at large. This fall, our opening season begins with a number of programs surrounding climate action and climate justice. Featuring exhibitions by Yto Barrada with guest artist Bettina and Michael Wang, as well as The Take Care Series.

All events and programs are free, and all are welcome.

Can solace be found in the power of solidarity? Yto Barrada reflects on our individual and collective reactions to the onset of disaster. Through documentary abstraction channeled through clear lines, simple shapes, and a reduced palette, Barrada and guest artist Bettina imagine a quieter beginning.

Michael Wang
Extinct in New York

The gallery becomes a greenhouse, a sanctuary of care, and a time capsule for the city's extinct flora in Michael Wang's reverent Extinct in New York.

Through events and participatory programs for all ages, The Take Care Series reframes art curation as a mindful practice stemming from the concept of care. Join us at LMCC's Arts Center every Saturday from 2pm - 5pm beginning this Saturday, September 21.
