Here’s what’s happening in Philadelphia.
The end of September is almost upon us, and now that we’ve gotten back into the swing of things (like weekends away from the shore), we’re eagerly awaiting this dip in temperature and boost in block parties and outdoor festivals where we’re not sweating through our shirts! From low-carb beers to high-plant proteins, bike rides and rooftop puppy play, here’s what’s going on in the fitness and wellness realm of Philly this week and beyond!

👟 Dogfish Goes Fit(t)
Dogfish Head, the Delaware brewery that produces some of our favorite beers, is really leaning into the wellness community. Their latest: partnering with Merrell for a sustainable running shoe inspired by their SeaQuench Ale. The midsole is made from 10% algae, 30% of the outsole is recycled, and the upper is equivalent to two recycled water bottles. Add this to the fact that they recently released a low-carb IPA brewed with monk fruit and the rumors that they’re jumping into the hard seltzer industry and they might just become our go-to post-workout refuel.

🥗 Just Salad (Hold the Steak)
Just Salad, one of our top spots to nab a midday lunch, is offering even more plant-based options — and ditching all grilled steak from their menu. While they’re not nixing all animal-based proteins, their shift from steak to Earth-friendly Beyond Meat is a delicious way to include all on their lengthy menu. This is the latest step in their successful sustainability initiative that's putting planet over profit. Can’t wait to dig into those Beyond Beef meat[less]balls and zoodles!

🐟 Fresh Fish On Filbert Street
If you’ve ever wandered the aisles of Reading Terminal overwhelmed by the options, get ready for one more! Umi Seafood and Sushi Bar, the only sushi seller in the entire market, is finally open in the spot that used to be 12th Street Cantina. They’re dishing out more than 100 types of sushi, have a prepared foods case with grilled vegetables, scallops, and salmon teriyaki, and are open daily from 10am–6pm — perfect for those lunch hour sashimi cravings!

🚗 Ditch The Car
We all love a good holiday, and September 22 just so happens to be World Car-Free Day, a movement aimed at helping promote more sustainable means of transportation in cities large and small. So, this Sunday, do the Earth a solid by leaving the car in park and instead exploring the city by foot or hitting up some of Philly’s awesome bike trails.

Yoga with Nai and Brunch in Suraya’s Garden
Fishtown's hottest brunch spot has one of the most gorgeous courtyards, and we can't think of a more picturesque spot to get your yoga flow on. Your ticket includes an hour-long Vinyasa class AND a private brunch in the middle of the courtyard. Handstands and hummus? Hell yes.

Bok Rooftop Yoga
Savasana at sunset — pretty perfect, right? Well, it’s even sweeter on the rooftop of Bok, followed by a tasty cocktail and endless city views. Every second and fourth Tuesday of each summer month, KG Strong (Bok’s resident fitness studio) is hosting their signature rooftop yoga series with some of the best instructors in Philly. Best part: 30% of the proceeds from all classes go to different nonprofits in the city!

Franklin & Whitman’s Fightin’ for the Pups Rooftop
Rooftop views? Check. Kombucha? Check. Learning some sweet boxing moves? Check! My goodness, this event has it all. From an invigorating boxing class taught by Reid Eichelberger from EverybodyFights to an after-party with drinks, honeygrow, and Franklin & Whitman products, we can’t think of a better way to soak up October evening! PLUS, proceeds go to the PASPCA, so do good while you feel good.

Gritty 5k
A run for the anti-runner who's just here for a good time — this Gritty 5k is all about dressing to impress (specifically like our favorite orange chaos monster, Gritty himself). Prizes will be given to best dressed, and the Gritty theme is going to be strong. After the run along Broad Street and past The Navy Yard, head back to the Wells Fargo Center for a full-blown fan fest with music, vendors, and lots of orange stuff!

🍻 In Other News
Prost!
This weekend, break out the leiderhosen and dirndls for Brauhaus Schmitz’s annual Oktoberfest celebration! They totally shut down South Street for a party featuring oom-pah music, German dancing, liter hoisting, and some tantalizingly tasty German foods.
Picnic in the Park
Sure, we’ve all grabbed a Sweetgreen salad and brought it to one of the benches in Rittenhouse Square, but this week, take your picnic to the next level at the Harvest Moon Celebration thrown by the Friends of Rittenhouse Square! They’re setting the square up for a fall fiesta complete with spaces to dine, drink, and music for dancing. Think Diner en Blanc but with less schlepping and sweating (and a bit more color).

Shoutout to Naseemah Palmer, aka @vividbelle_, for launching Vivid Belle, the brand new collection of bold lifestyle and activewear, ranging from bright colors to black & white. They're kicking things off with a Wellness Brunch (way better than a traditional launch party), and tickets are already on sale for an October afternoon of fitness, fashion, and food!
