Collecting the laundry from the line the other day, I found what seemed to be a dead leaf adhered to a tee-shirt. Something made me look again before firmly brushing it off, and I spotted four little white legs protruding beneath the ‘leaf’.

I quickly realised that it was a ‘Comma’ butterfly, one of the nicer garden butterflies that we get here. I gently coaxed it off, and away it flew.

Our lives are profoundly intertwined with the creatures that live around us. When we rush through life, we can too easily overlook the beauty and fragility of the natural world, it can take just a little extra time to tune us in to the other beings that surround us and share our space.
