Dear Friend of Senate District 10,

I hope you had a great week thus far. This week, In light of the recent Hurricane Dorian recovery efforts, my colleagues and I celebrated the work of all lineworkers and utility employees from North Carolina’s Electric Cooperatives, Duke Energy, and Electricities who work tirelessly to keep our lights on, especially after natural disasters. The General Assembly recently passed the “Keeping the Lights On” license plate, which honors these workers while also contributing to the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center. I would like to thank our lineman for inviting me to join them for a group photo and thank you to everyone who had a hand in making this license plate a reality.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if I can assist you in any way possible.

Sincerely,

Legislative Recap

Weekly Legislative Update

This week saw a number of changes to the General Assembly as we worked through the Redistricting process as ordered by the Superior Court. First, Senator Dan Bishop of Mecklenburg County won the Congressional House race for the Ninth District and resigned his position here to take his seat in Washington DC. Also, Representative Greg Murphy of Pitt County won the Congressional House for the Third District and resigned his position here to take his seat in Washington D.C. as well. Additionally, Senator John Alexander announced that he would not be seeking re-election in 2020. We commend them for their years of service to our state.

The maps drawn for the Senate saw bi-partisan support and were voted to be approved by the Senate this week. Our staff have worked incredibly hard to meet the short deadline set by the court and both parties have remarked on the fairness and openness with which we operated during this process. We are thankful that everything went smoothly and await the court’s approval of these truly non-partisan maps.
