Mayor Jim Kenney to meet the Rebuild recruits working toward membership in a construction union
PHILADELPHIA - On Friday, City officials and trade union representatives will gather to congratulate the first Rebuild recruits selected for a program to offer new opportunities for diverse Philadelphia residents to pursue membership in a building trades union. Rebuild is creating a diverse pipeline of union tradespeople to work on Rebuild projects to improve neighborhood parks, recreation centers, and libraries. The first class of recruits has successfully completed their introductory training, and are moving on to further training or union apprenticeships in roofing, cement masonry, and painting trades.

Rebuilding Community Infrastructure (Rebuild)
Rebuild is an investment of hundreds of millions of dollars in neighborhood parks, recreation centers and libraries. Proposed in Mayor Jim Kenney’s first budget as a part of his vision for a more equitable Philadelphia, Rebuild seeks to improve pivotal community spaces, empower and engage communities, and promote economic opportunity through diversity and inclusion. Rebuild is a public private partnership made possible by the Philadelphia Beverage Tax.
