Rector's Reflection
And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.
~Joel 2:28

Dear ones,

As I sit outside on our back deck this morning to write to you all, I am filled with gratitude and awe for the abundance of good things, good people, good work and good weather that surrounds me on all sides. Specifically, I am grateful for you. Almost two years ago to the day, I said my goodbyes to my former parish and began the work of preparing my heart and mind to join a new parish. I prayed every day that God would bless our time and ministry together with a shared deepening of faith, joy and abundance. In just under two years time, I feel like I am sprinting just to try and keep up with you all. Everywhere I look, good things... rooted in faith, joy and that abundant mindset... are happening.

I pray that you see and feel the Holy Spirit blowing through our parish with great glee and that you, too, are feeling grateful and energized! The more we give of ourselves to the place and people of Saint David's, the greater our impact on our families, our community and the world will be; to say nothing of the effect on own hearts and faith lives. So, dear ones, as we make our way into the fall... I pray that we all set aside a bit of time to reflect on all that is already happening at Saint David's and dare to dream dreams with the Holy Spirit about all that is still to come. There is so much more in store for us at this time and in this place. I am so grateful to be on this journey with you.

With love and gratitude,

Kristen

Children Choirs Resume.
This fall at St. David’s we have some exciting changes regarding our choirs. We are adding a new Cherub Choir, which will be for children ages 4 to 7. Our own Joel Wood will be directing this new choir. The Jubilate Choir will continue under my leadership and will now be for ages 8 through high school. We made the decision to offer a Cherub Choir so the youngest singers can get the proper attention they need to develop their musical skills. The Jubilate Choir will now focus on the musical needs of our older, more advanced singers. This will give them the opportunity to sing more difficult material and sing more often in our Sunday services. Starting in October, we’ll return to our usual monthly first Thursday night rehearsals with pizza party afterwards.Click here for a detailed schedule for the fall semester.  As always, parents are encouraged to socialize in the undercroft with wine and snacks during the evening rehearsals. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or suggestions for the choir. I look forward to seeing everyone in church for Homecoming!

Regards,
-Rob

Water Remediation Update
After the July 8 storms that left our Church Undercroft underwater, much has been happening!  Teams of staff and parishioners worked together to clear, clean and empty the undercroft and parish house basement.  The parish house was quickly painted and cleaned to temporarily house our nursery, Sunday school rooms, music room and coffee hours when they are not outside.  Our insurance claim on the water damaged undercroft has been accepted and will be finalized once we get in all of the various bids to renovate all that was damaged.  In the meantime, we have been studying the water table and movement of water both inside and outside of the church, as well as getting bids from various groups for work on our roof, gutters, drains, sump pumps and more.  There are many moving parts and many individuals giving their resources and time to helping us put together a master plan - and we are grateful to them all!  Work should begin very soon in earnest now that we have a clearer understanding of all of those moving parts.  If you have any questions, concerns or want to help, please talk with a vestry or staff member.
Acolyte and Lector Signup and Training: Calling all those, youth or adult, interested in being a lector, acolyte and/or Lay Eucharistic Minister (chalice bearer) this coming year!  We are going to be scheduling and training those who lead us in worship and would love to hear from you if you would like to help serve.  Please contact Kristen asap!
First Sunday Returns
Starting soon, the first Sunday of every month, the service of Holy Eucharist at 10 am will be led almost entirely by the youth of the parish.  We will be recruiting for youth acolytes, lectors & ushers.  In lieu of Sunday School, children will remain for the entire service and the homily will be a children's homily.  If you have young people in your midst who would like to help lead the First Sunday service, please contact Kristen!

Message from Lizzie Polk, Youth and Family Missioner. Greeting St. Davids’ families! I am thrilled to introduce myself as the new Youth & Family Missioner.  I come to the position with 11 years of teaching experience as both a kindergarten teacher and an early childhood special education teacher.  In addition to my love of children and passion for teaching, I also know how formative a child’s relationship to God and their Church community can be.  I grew up attending Sunday School and participating in Church youth activities, and those experiences shaped the person I am today.  I have two small children myself: Isabelle, 3, who can’t wait to begin Sunday school, and Henry, 19 months. I look forward to meeting you and your little ones, and am so excited to work together to help St. David’s continue to grow as a great place for children and families!
Columbarium Update

As part of the previous Capital Campaign, St. David's is building a columbarium for the interment of cremated ashes.  The nationally renowned firm of Richard Williams Architects has been hired to create a peaceful and contemplative structure for this important project.  This firm is renowned for their work on some of our nation's most famous churches.  Much thought has gone into this project to ensure we create a sacred space which is both fitting with our Anglican traditions and the aesthetics of the church. The design calls for a low wall covered in natural stone to closely parallel the church on the Klingle Street side.  Construction documents for bids were finished in early September.  We are now in the process of soliciting bids from qualified contractors with the hope of starting construction this year.  The columbarium is currently configured to have forty niches and each of these will have a stone face plate for the engraving of names.  Behind each stone plate will be a stainless steel niche (box) that is designed to accommodate up to two urns.  Final pricing and policies are still being determined.  The goal is to finish the project by next spring. A rendering of the columbarium can be found here and will soon be located for viewing in the narthex of the church.
