1.  Universal Parks & Resorts' CEO dishes on ticket increases and strategy

So said Tom Williams, chairman and CEO of Universal Parks & Resorts, during a Sept. 11 Bank of America Merrill Lynch conference on the company's big plans worldwide. Both Universal Orlando Resort and Walt Disney World (NYSE: DIS) charge more than $100 for admission into their Orlando theme parks – pricing that varies based on the time of year.

2.  Best Exhibit Awards Presented at IAAPA Expo Europe 2019

PARIS, France — IAAPA, the global trade association for the attractions industry, presented the Best Exhibit Awards at IAAPA Expo Europe (formerly Euro Attractions Show) at the Paris Expo Porte De Versailles in Paris, France. The awards honor and recognize outstanding booth presentations at IAAPA Expo Europe. 

3.  Did Universal’s Jurassic World ride scare you? Thank this guy

Jon Corfino, 60, has been senior director and executive producer for Universal Creative since 2013 and has overseen the creation of several attractions at Universal Studios Hollywood, including the themed area known as Springfield, Despicable Me Minion Mayhem and, most recently, Jurassic World — the Ride. He started at the park while in college, working a summer job on the famous Studio Tour.
 

4.  Disneyland Paris: employees on strike this Sunday to defend their work pace

The date was not chosen at random. "We want to put a lot of pressure on management during the Disneyland Paris Run Weekend ," said Renald Grandjean, CFTC staff delegate in the amusement park.

SeaWorld San Diego reopened its nostalgic Bayside Skyride over Mission Bay on Wednesday after the ride had been sidelined for seven months following damage from strong winds.
 

7.  Legoland Florida shows off new Pirate Island Hotel opening in April 2020

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — Legoland's first pirate-themed hotel is coming soon, and the Winter Haven theme park just revealed a new look inside.  The Legoland Pirate Island Hotel will open April 17, 2020, with 150 rooms, a heated pool, hundreds of pirate-themed Lego models, in-room treasure hunts and character experiences.

9.  Disney's Hollywood Studios reveals peek inside revamped store

Walt Disney World's major revamp of Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park has included lots of factors such as new themed areas, rides and shows — and now, stores.  The theme park has revamped two of its retail shops — Keystone Clothiers and Legends of Hollywood — to follow the upgrades the theme park has welcomed over the year, most notable, Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.

11.  Up! Wind almost carries away balloon handler at Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Disney World

Disney is bringing Pixar to life for Halloween.  A Florida father captured the wild moment when a balloon handler at Walt Disney World was practically blown away when crazy winds blow through the theme park.  Erick Comellas posted a hilarious video on Facebook Sunday showing handler Brandon Myers struggling at the Lake Buene Vista, Florida, park. 

12.  Extreme right-wing political party guests in German amusement park: 'Nazi-Wunderland'

A German amusement park is under fire because of organizing an event for an extreme right-wing political party. On Saturday 5 October, the national party day of the controversial club Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) takes place in amusement park Wunderland Kalkar. The park gets a lot of criticism on social media.

13.  Disneyland bringing Frontierland dueling piano show to Golden Horseshoe Saloon this fall

A new dueling piano show will replace the long-running “Laughing Stock Co.” at the Golden Horseshoe Saloon in Frontierland this fall as Disneyland begins adding new entertainment to replace retiring shows.
 

14.  'Stranger Things' event planned for beloved NASA-area amusement park next month

Bay Area Putt-Putt FunHouse will host a Stranger Things event every weekend throughout the month of October, according to a release from the park. Guests must brave the Upside Down in search of character trading cards that can be redeemed for candy or, for the die-hard fans, Eggo waffles.

15.  Six Flags New England offering free admission with donations during annual Diaper Drive

Six Flags New England is offering free admission this weekend with the donation of a new and sealed box of diapers.  The annual Diaper Drive, which runs on Sept. 21 and Sept. 22, collects diapers for Square One, an early-education organization, in Springfield.
 

16.  Halloween returns to Nigloland for Nigloween 2019

At Nigloland, Halloween is celebrated as it should be! In the weekends from October 5 to November 3, 2019 and every day during All Saints vacations, the theme park of the family Gelis-Caron sports the colors of Nigloween! On the occasion, pumpkins and evil creatures take over the park.

17.  ‘Jewel in a jewel box’: Rescued Joyland carousel about to spin again at its new home

In a tucked away back corner of Botanica — beyond the children’s garden and past a temporary orange-netted barrier — is a sight that only a few have seen. There, under a giant glass dome — the “jewel box” — is the 40-foot-wide, 36-horse carousel that used to spin at Wichita’s Joyland Amusement Park when it operated from 1949 to 2006 at 2801 S. Hillside.
 

18.  Owner of Bell's Amusement park responds to community support, interest

TULSA — According to the Bell's Amusement Park Facebook page, Robby Bell, the owner of the Bell's family amusement park, posted a video addressing the community's interest in the park coming back.
 

1.  First a flying bar, now a $12 million ride. New fun planned for Margaritaville Resort.

Building permits are issued for the amusement park at Margaritaville Resort Biloxi and Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich said Wednesday the centerpiece will be a $12 million Ferris wheel.

2.  Cineplex opening The Rec Room and VIP Cinemas in Montreal

Cineplex is opening the first location of The Rec Room in Quebec, as well as a new VIP Cinemas. Both attractions will be part of the Royalmount development in Montreal.  Cineplex partnered with Carbonleo and L Catterton Real Estate (LCRE) on the plans, with The Rec Room and VIP Cinemas scheduled to open in 2022.

3.  Go behind-the-screams of Queen Mary’s Dark Harbor with backstage experience

Haunt fans can go behind-the-scenes of Queen Mary’s Dark Harbor this Halloween with the exclusive backstage experience, Dark Hour – A Look Behind the Screams!  On Select nights, brave fans can mingle with the monsters of the Halloween event for photo-ops and conversation while enjoying hors d’oeuvres, meat selections, and specialty cocktails available for purchase. 

4.  Celebrating 130 years of the Eiffel Tower

Built in 1889 for the World Fair, the Eiffel Tower was only ever meant to be a temporary structure, but it was such a hit that it's remained the tallest point on the Paris skyline ever since. To mark the tower's 130th birthday, the site will host a free and interactive exhibition that promises to reveal a different side to a structure that's come to symbolise France on the world stage. We speak to Patrick Branco Ruivo, director of the company that runs the Eiffel Tower.

5.  Madame Tussauds Gets It Right With Their New Beyonce Statue: See The Photos

Madame Tussauds hasn't always nailed it when it comes to their statues of celebrities, in particular Beyoncé, but the famed wax museum has nailed their latest rendition of the superstar.  On Thursday (September 19), official social media accounts for the London location unveiled the newest Bey statue, which channels her iconic Coachella 2018 look, and we have to admit they did a fantastic job. 

6.  Could you survive Jason? Real-life horror game in Arizona puts you against the infamous 'Friday the 13th' killer

A group in Arizona created the 'F13: Survive Jason' game, which gives players a real horror scenario to escape all while being hunted by Jason Voorhees.

7.  Historic carousel group in Perry aiming for new permanent home

There’s a new effort to find a permanent home for a carousel over a century old in Perry, Missouri with an auction this weekend.  Officials with the ‘Friends of the Perry Carousel’ group said they bought the carousel, built in 1898, earlier this year and since then it’s been in storage except for special occasions. 

8.  The Getty Trust Will Spend $100 Million to Protect Archaeological Sites Around the World From Climate Change and Sectarian Violence

The J. Paul Getty Trust has announced that it will spend $100 million over the course of the next ten years to help protect archaeological sites and antiquities around the world.  The new initiative, which the Los Angeles-based organization calls “Ancient Worlds Now: a Future for the Past,” aims to protect ancient cultural heritage through scholarship programs, conservation efforts, exhibitions, and partnerships with other enterprises. 

9.  Philadelphia Museum of Art opens its jaw-dropping new entrance — the old vaulted walkway, closed for decades

For nearly half a century, the old north entrance of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the entry mostly notable for the trucks parked in front of it or backing into it, has been off-limits to anyone not seeking to load at its dock facing Kelly Drive.

10.  More Than 1,300 Museums Are Offering Free Admission This Weekend

For one day, more than 1,300 museums across the United States will open their doors for free, celebrating the stories found inside. September 21 is the 15th annual Museum Day, organized by Smithsonian Magazine and anyone can participate.

1.  Blackstone Nears $2.9 Billion Deal for Great Wolf

Centerbridge Partners is nearing a deal to sell indoor water-park operator Great Wolf Resorts Inc. to Blackstone Group Inc., according to people with knowledge of the matter.  Any transaction would value Great Wolf at at least $2.9 billion, including debt, said one the people, who requested anonymity because the talks are private. Any deal would likely be led by Blackstone’s real estate investment arm, another person said.

2.  WhiteWater wins multiple European Star Awards

WhiteWater, a leading waterpark manufacturer, has announced that it has won multiple European Star Awards, including two for Europe’s Best Family Water Slides (2019) and one for Europe’s Best Thrill Water Slides.

3.  Roaring Springs at work on new water slide for 2020 season

Roaring Springs Water Park plans to add a large new water slide to the park in time for its 21st summer season next year.  Construction crews are at work on so-called ‘double flying saucer’ ride. The raft-based ride will allow one or two riders to slide together. Features of the ride include two cork-screw feature near the top, a pair of flying saucer features and a 180-degree turn near the splash-down pool. 

4.  American Dream Looking To Hire 300 Lifeguards

With American Dream's grand opening quickly approaching, the mega-mall has been hosting several job fairs to fill open positions.  The latest round of hiring events, scheduled for Sept. 21 and 28, are aimed at recruiting 300 lifeguards to work at the mall's indoor DreamWorks Water Park.

5.  Aquaboggan Is Becoming Haunted With A Trail Of Terror This October

There's a bit of theme happening amongst New England's theme parks this fall, it's time to get a little scarier. Aquaboggan is planning on doing just that as they will once again host the Trail of Terror for another year on select weekends in October and November.

1.  With master plan approved, see what's next for Baton Rouge Zoo, Greenwood Park renovations

BREC's board of commissioners on Wednesday approved master plans for Baton Rouge Zoo and Greenwood Community Park, pushing the major redevelopment into the pre-design phase.

2.  Montgomery Zoo’s pygmy hippo gives birth to extremely rare twins

The Montgomery Zoo and Mann Wildlife Learning Museum says its hippopotamus exhibit is growing. On Aug. 4, the zoo welcomed rare twin female pygmy hippopotamus calves to first time parents Asali, and Mikey.  While they mark the fourth births of pygmy hippos to the zoo in four years, unfortunately, one of the babies lived just two days due to a condition called brachygnathism. That made it impossible for the calf to nurse.

3.  Twycross Zoo celebrates big increase in visitor numbers

Leicestershire attraction Twycross Zoo has been named in Visit Britain’s official statistics as the fastest growing zoo and wildlife attraction in England.  The zoo has achieved a 15 per cent growth in visitor numbers year on year.

4.  The Zoo Will Turn Into a Magical Holiday Lights Wonderland in November

The Philadelphia Zoo has been crushing it lately. If the goal was to take it from a popular spot for tots in strollers and turn it into an all-ages destination, they’re certainly going about it the right way. They brought back the nostalgia-inducing Zoo Keys (millennials love nostalgia!). They opened a new beer garden (cool!). They built a zip line and ropes course (scary but fun!). In fact, they’ve done such a nice job giving us new reasons to visit that we named them the Best Institution to Rediscover in this year’s Best of Philly issue.

5.  ZOOM Erlebniswelt builds new penguin plant with 315 m³ water basin

Visitors to the ZOOM Erlebniswelt can look forward to another species in the future: The "African Adventure World" is currently the site of the new penguin facility . Preparatory measures for the construction have just begun. On Tuesday, September 24, 2019, the crane will be set up in the early morning. The plant is scheduled to open in spring 2020.

6.  On this date: Cincinnati Zoo opens its doors to public 144 years ago

Exactly 144 years ago, the Cincinnati Zoo opened its doors to the public.  The zoo posted to its Facebook on Wednesday stating that it's the second oldest zoo in the nation. The Cincinnati Zoo opened its doors Sept. 18, 1875. The Philadelphia Zoo is the oldest in the nation, beating the Cincinnati Zoo by only 14 months.

7.  Exhibit for sun bears at Honolulu Zoo gets a makeover

Here’s something to check out the next time you’re at the Honolulu Zoo: The Malay sun bear exhibit has reopened.  The exhibit now features a refurbished cave, improvements to the climbing structure and landscaping.  The Honolulu Zoo has two sun bears: 24-year-old Juwita and 23-year-old Blackie.

8.  AZA Grants CT's Beardsley Zoo Accreditation

The Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) has announced that Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo was granted accreditation by AZA’s independent Accreditation Commission.  “Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo is among the outstanding aquariums and zoos that have met or exceeded our rigorous accreditation standards,” said AZA President and CEO Dan Ashe.

9.  Calgary Zoo introduces new silverback gorilla

Baby gorillas could soon be a part of the Calgary Zoo.  Tuesday, the zoo introduced Jisiri, a 21-year-old male silverback western lowland gorilla.  Curator Dr. Malu Celli said Jisiri came from Atlanta in June and has spent the past few months getting used to his surroundings.

10.  Photos: San Francisco Zoo reveals its latest addition — a rare baby monkey

A rare baby Francois’ langur was born Sept. 8 at the San Francisco Zoo.  The organization made the announcement Wednesday and showed off pictures of the newborn. The Francois’ langur, also known as the Francois leaf monkey, is an endangered speciesprimate found in the forests of southwest China and northern Vietnam.

1.  STORMING AREA 51? KNOW BEFORE YOU GO…

The hush-hush ground of Area 51 seems to be the perfect host of the equally mysterious Facebook event storming the internet. In case you’ve missed all the social media hubbub, one Facebook user created an open-invitation event called, “Storm Area 51. They Can’t Stop All of Us.” Since its conception in June 2019, the event—scheduled to happen on September 20th—has been modified and basically removed, which seems like a smart move for a variety of reasons. If you were, or still are, planning on raiding the highly restricted, Air Force-run property, here’s what you should know.
