PowerUp Toys’ New PowerUp 4.0 Can Fly Almost Anything, Including Even A Lettuce

By Mike chua on Sep 19, 2019 03:52 pm

Forget about expensive RC airplanes because, PowerUp Toys is back with an even more capable system that will make paper airplane even more awesome. Dubbed PowerUp 4.0, it boasts an onboard flight computer with autopilot function, gyroscope and accelerometer, and offers flight telemetry for a proper debrief of your sortie. Just like Maverick would have wanted, except Top Gun did not endorsed it nor did Tom Cruise.

PowerUp 4.0 Smartphone-controlled Paper Airplane

The new PowerUp 4.0 benefits from two new sensors and an even more robust design with a nylon and carbon fiber construction. In fact, it is so capable that it could literally fly anything, even a lettuce. Thanks to its powerful, high-speed dual motors, it can fly virtually anything including the aforementioned lettuce, a torn up paper airplane or even airplane made of Styrofoam, balsa wood and more.

With the PowerUp 4.0 you can perform aerobatics with greater ease and fly in bad wind conditions. It also touts launch assist that can recover and fly bad launches, and auto stabilizer to counter the worst paper ever made. If you think of yourself as a pro, then you will also benefit from the flight telemetry and stats served in real-time.

Other features include replaceable parts (battery, bumper, front clips and propellers), voltage protection in case of motor overload, soft front bumper, and dive and stall prevention software. Not going to lie. I am totally sold. Even more so by the optional LED lights for night flights and the optional improved landing gear. Trust me. You will never look at paper airplane the same way again. Again.

Once again, PowerUp Toys has taken to Kickstarter to promote its latest ware. For $49-79, depending on the trim, you can pre-order one destined for April 2020 delivery. Not surprisingly, the campaign has met with overwhelming support. At the time of this post, it is already 1,154 percent funded and goes what? It has 43 days to go.

Gateway Foundation Wants You To Have A True Out-Of-This-World Experience With This Giant Space Hotel

By Mike chua on Sep 19, 2019 03:03 pm

When some attractions promised “out-of-this-world” experience, well, spoiler alert, they are lying to you. However, in the case of Gateway Foundation, the organization aren’t bullshitting if it promised you an out-of-this-world experience because, the Californian company’s planned Von Braun Station will be a functional space hotel. You read that right. A freaking space hotel! While companies like Virgin Galactic is making progress in space travel only, Gateway Foundation wants you to take a vacation in space.

Von Braun Station Space Hotel
Interstellar’s Endurance in real life, excerpt this one will orbit the Earth, not tearing through some wormhole.

The company’s ambition will see it constructing a rotating space station reminiscent that of spaceship Endurance from the 2014 movie Interstellar. The rotating “wheel” is, of course, necessary for the creation of artificial gravity. But that (the gravity) will only be more prominent on outer selection of the station, where else if you venture further into the center station, there will be little to no gravity. If you are interested, there’s an article on Medium which perfectly explains how the science of gravity on Endurance works.

Anywho, as far as Von Braun Station Space Hotel goes, it will be able to accommodate up to 450 people and features amenities like restaurants, movie screenings, rock climbing and a space-only exclusive low-gravity basket game. Well, you are going to need a lot of amenities and entertainment because, there aren’t a lot to see in space, are there? The company hopes to get it off the ground (and into space) by 2025. 2025? Well, that sure is a bold and optimistic ambitious, doesn’t it? Perhaps, a little too bold and ambitious.

Von Braun Station Space Hotel
Wait. Is the space ship about to enter the hanger of Death Star?

Even NASA, which gets billions of dollars in funding, has projected its return to the Moon in 2024 and you can’t blame me for being skeptical that this giant-ass structure will be completed in 2025 and operational by 2027. TBH, I won’t be holding my breath for it. Well, not that I will be one of them who can afford it anyways.

In case you are super rich and harbor the desire to experience staying in space without having to go through hellish astronaut training, we suggest you keep breathing and hold out for it to actually materializes before making any decision. In the meantime, you can find out more at Gateway Foundation’s website, or continue reading to find a comprehensive video detailing how the company will make it happen.

This Sci-Fi-ish Baby Monitor Does More Than Just Monitoring Your Bundle Of Joy

By Mike chua on Sep 19, 2019 01:13 pm

Baby monitor. There’s no shortage of them in the market. But the thing is, if look around, most of them are nothing more than video cameras that lets you see you baby. Not the Motorola Baby Halo+ from Binatone Global, an official licensee for Motorola Baby products, though.

Motorola Baby Halo+ Baby Monitor

One look and you know it is different. It is crib mountable that “hovers” over the crib and does a bunch of things like read stories to the baby, play lullabies, and even project images on the ceiling to keep the little one entertained – just to name a few. It really feels like something you will find on a U.S.S. Enterprise if Starfleet staff have babies.

Motorola Baby Halo+ Baby Monitor works with a companion app that offers control over the monitor with ease.

It further features color changing LED nightlight, a portable 4.3-inch “parent unit” to monitor the baby from other part of the home, infrared night vision, two-way communication, real-time streaming over WiFi with audio, motion alerts, and sleep insights of your bundle of joy.

Motorola Baby Halo+ Baby Monitor
It can be use on counter/table top too.

Another interesting feature is the ability to record your own voice or you singing which the baby monitor can then play to your baby. That’s, of course, in addition to the library of audio, lullabies and audio books available at your disposal through the Hubble app.

The best part is, this sci-fi-ish baby care gadget is not stuff of sci-fi; it can be had now for $299.99. However, last checked it is going at a discounted price of $273. We do not know how long the discount will last and so, if you want it at nearly 30 dollars less, you have to act on it soon.

Zodiac Watches Celebrates 50th Anniversary Of Astrographic By Bringing Back Astrographic Watches

By Mike chua on Sep 19, 2019 10:59 am

Designed at the height of the space race in 1969, Zodiac Watches Astrographic was a futuristic watch ahead of its time. It was futuristic in both the looks as well as in its features. It featured an avant-garde shaped case, a minimalistic dial face, and a floating disks comprising of suspended hour and minute markers that simulate two revolving satellites in space and a red dot resembling the Red Planet as the second hand.

Zodiac Astrographic Automatic Watch

Marking Zodiac Astrographic Automatic Watch’s 50th anniversary, Zodiac Watches has brought it back as a one-of-a-kind limited edition re-issue that features all of the above, but with new materials and the watchmaker’s STP 3-13 automatic movement with swan-neck regulator. Each watch comes with a limited edition packaging heavy with some nostalgic look and feel, topped with a dope Astrographic mission patch.

The 2019 Zodiac Astrographic Automatic Watches were offered in two iconic colors: gold-tone and blue dial faces, and are both water resistant to 10 ATM (or about 100 meters or 330 feet). The announcement of the Zodiac Astrographic Automatic Watches came last month, but sadly, the $1,295 watch has since flew off the shelves. TBH, we didn’t expect it to be gone this fast, but it did. I can’t help but to think the quick sale had something to do with 50 years of moon landing this year even though it was not an officially sanction products.

Fossil Collider DIANA Smartwatch Might Be Running On Wear OS Hybrid Technology

By Mike chua on Sep 19, 2019 10:22 am

Clearly, the geeky-look bring about by smartwatch is not for everyone. Well, fret not, there is always the hybrid that will slightly soften the geeky-look. Speaking of hybrid, Fossil Collider DIANA Smartwatch is a new line of offering from, well, the largest smartwatch maker and fashion label Fossil.

Fossil Collider DIANA Smartwatch

The OS is not known, even though it has been put up to order on a Dutch website, bol.com. However, it is tipped to be powered by Wear OS. DIANA, btw, is not a moniker that points to the feminine side; it is portmanteau of Digital and Analog (“Di” for Digital and “Ana” for Analog). At this point, there are no official words from Fossil, but as per the aforementioned Dutch retailer, the details are as follow:

• Collider is the first digital and analogue (DIANA) hybrid smartwatch from Fossil.
• 42mm stainless steel case.
• A modern “e-ink display” (without a touchscreen) sits behind the hands to show steps, weather, and notifications from your apps.
• Support for 10 different dial elements.
• Built-in heart rate monitor.
• Battery will last for 2 to 4 weeks (depending on use).
• Connect via Bluetooth to your iPhone or Android phone so you can view all the stats in detail such as calories, steps, sleep, and much more.
• The time automatically synchronizes with your phone.
• You can assign functions to the right top button. “Want to start a workout with Google Fit or see your latest WhatsApps? It’s possible with one touch of a button!”

Apparently, the is a model with GPS and Google Pay, and one that as a brown E-ink. Anyways, since these information did not come from Fossil itself, nor are the smartwatches listed on its official website, it is wise to take those details with a pinch of salt. Fossil Collider DIANA Smartwatch is, according to The Verge, “currently available for pre-order from a variety of retail sites for around €200/$220.”

Meet Singularity 2, The Blackest Black Object You Can Own

By Mike chua on Sep 19, 2019 09:45 am

I am sure you have heard about the fuss over the world’s blackest material, Vantablack, which came onto the market a couple of years ago. Since then, there have been a few “equivalents” like the Black 2.0 and a few others that seek to make the Anish Kapoor-owned Vantablack available to all artists.

Singularity 2 is the latest to join the blackest black hype, but it is not just for artists. It is a piece of the blackest black object you and I can own. Why do anyone want other than artists and space engineers want a piece of the blackest black object? I don’t know. Perhaps, it could be a geek’s badge of honor, or something?

Blackest Black Object You Can Own

Singularity 2, as the name implies, is not the first. It is the second iteration that promised to be even more black. In fact, Singularity 2 boasts a number of new features, including matte protective coating, no gloss at low angles of incidence, stiffened backing to prevent surface rippling, non-ridged micro-texture and of course, super black performance from all angles.

Singularity 2 is not Vantablack, nor is it the Black 2.0. It was created by one Simon Thompson as an alternative to the Vantablack. Unfortunately, it isn’t a paint which you can apply to say, for example, a car. It is offered as a display-worthy collectible, in ultra-clear Lucite acrylic, in two sizes and as a void sheet which you can cut and trim to apply on whatever art or object of your choosing.

Singularity Designs has taken Kickstarter to peddle Singularity 2 where you can help make it a reality by pre-ordering it for £35-49 (about US$44-62). If the campaign gets funded within the next 50 days, you can expect the Blackest Black Object You Can Own to be delivered sometime in March 2020.

By Mike chua on Sep 19, 2019 08:46 am

Don’t ask me why we are posting this. We receive this in our inbox and thought we’d share it with you. You may have already heard, Aston Martin is going to have a SUV and for now, it is simply known as DBX. An Aston Martin SUV is imminent and the British marque is slowly but surely drumming up the hype running to up its final reveal in early December. Today’s “drumming up” involved the grilled tease.

Aston Martin DBX SUV Grille

Yup. That’s right. Aston Martin wants you take a good look at the DBX’s grille. The DB11 influence there is unmistakable even though it is just the shape of it that we are seeing now. The message Aston Martin is sending out here is clear. The Aston Martin DBX may be beast even in the harshest of environments, but its sports car lineage is never forgotten.

You learn more about the DBX and see it in all its camouflage glory (without the actual grille, that is) over at the Aston Martin DBX page HERE. There’s a video below that teases the DB11-ish grille, though.

Also, if you are so inclined, you can register your interest for the Aston Martin DBX HERE.

Razer Quietly Releases Overwatch Lúcio Edition Nari Ultimate And Goliathus Mouse Mat

By Mike chua on Sep 19, 2019 08:16 am

Overwatch is fictional and so is Lúcio, the crowd’s favorite, super cool freedom fighter and DJ. However, not real Lúcio is, you can kind of be like the dude with the newly released Razer Nari Ultimate Overwatch Lúcio Edition. It is the Razer Nari Ultimate with cosmetics inspired by the video game hero. We couldn’t think of a more fitting product, Razer or not, than a pair of gaming headphones to represent Lúcio.

Razer Nari Ultimate Overwatch Lúcio Edition

Fans will immediately recognize the colors (blue, green and yellow) associated with the DJ hero and also, his signature headphone-wearing-frog logo adorning the ear cup. Finally, rounding up the Lúcio/Overwatch aesthetic touches is a giant Overwatch branding across the inner headband.

Beyond those, the headphone is the same Razer Nari Ultimate you have come to know with key features like big 50 mm neodymium magnet drivers, 2.4 GHz wireless connectivity with range up to 40 feet (12 meters), up to 20 hours battery life 9 (or 8 with Razer Chroma lighting and HyperSense activated), THX Spatial Audio, Razer HyperSense haptic technology, cooling-gel infused cushions and auto-adjusting headband with swiveling ear cups.

The Razer Nari Ultimate Overwatch Lúcio Edition can be had for $229.99 which, btw, is a 30 dollars premium over the standard issue Razer Nari Ultimate gaming headphones.

If that’s not enough, Razer is also selling a Overwatch Lúcio-themed gaming mouse mat to go with the Overwatch Lúcio-themed gaming headphone, the Razer Goliathus Medium Overwatch Lúcio Edition.

Razer Goliathus Medium Overwatch Lúcio Edition is available now for $29.99.
