DAB+ listening numbers rise in Switzerland

Digital radio has reached a new milestone in Switzerland, with 65% of all radio listening in the spring of 2019 being digital. DAB+ listening now makes up over one third (35%) of total listening in the country which is set to switch off national FM broadcasts by 2024 at the latest.

Norway listening figures stable shows new data

New data published as part of WorldDAB's report on the radio industry and listening figures in Norway shows that total radio listening is back to similar levels as achieved in 2016, prior to the digital switchover. Younger and older listeners have recovered fastest, and overall listening levels are stable, with daily reach standing at 63-64% and weekly reach at 88%.

New DAB+ licenses issued to regional broadcasters in The Netherlands

The Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs has announced that it will be issuing a number of regional broadcasters with temporary DAB+ licenses starting from January 2020. The licenses are expected to be granted for a period of two years, until 2022, at which point the full range of frequencies intended for local broadcasters will be made available.

DAB+ offering grows in French-speaking Belgium

The rising popularity of DAB+ in Belgium is reflected in the growing number of stations launching on DAB+ in the French-speaking part of the country. Six new stations are launching on DAB+ in September, bringing the total number of stations available on DAB+ in the region to 22. More stations are expected to launch in coming months.

Saarland to start DAB+ broadcast

Saarland is set to become the latest state in Germany to launch DAB+ digital radio following a decision announced by the Media Authority in Saarland (LMS). Media Broadcast will provide technical services for the DAB+ platform in the region, while the multiplex will be operated by Divicon Media.
