Boston School Finder in the News

With the start of the new school year, it’s never too early to start thinking about school registration for next year, as I’ve been sharing about our work with various media outlets over the past few weeks.

“A Parent’s Guide to Starting the School Year”

On when to start thinking about registration: “Honestly, you should start looking now,” said Latoya Gayle… “You should start doing that research, because there are so many schools here in Boston, it’s going to take you some time,” Gayle said. Listen to the story on WGBH here.

“Parents using database to navigate tricky registration process”

The city has some of the best schools in the state, but parents don't always know about them. “We really want to change the demographics of who is able to access all the opportunities we have here in Boston," [Gayle] said. Watch the video on FOX25 here.

“Late registrations complicate the start of school for many Boston families”

“The schools that are highly sought-after don’t have seats, so they are left with schools that other people didn’t choose. The question is,” [Gayle] said, “how do we increase quality across the system so families have better choices?” Read the piece at The Boston Globe here.

“BPS owes parents a clearer school rating system”

“When the tiers don’t mirror state levels, it can get very confusing,” said Latoya Gayle... “They said that they’re trying to make things easier but it keeps getting more complicated.” Read the editorial at The Boston Globe here.

And tune in this Sunday, Sept. 22 at 12pm to WCVB’s CityLine to hear me talk about more how to make the school registration process more equitable for all Boston families. Let's keep the conversation going on Facebook.

Warmly,
Latoya Gayle
