Clan Feuding in Matanog

This is first of the four films that International Alert Philippines is releasing this Peace Week, as we celebrate the creativity, passion, and innovative actions of our young leaders in creating everyday change and building everyday peace in their communities.

Clan feuding or rido is one of the major causes of conflict deaths in Muslim Mindanao. Generations in the Iranun Corridor in Maguindanao experience rido and it is usually the women and the young people who bear the brunt. Widows bear the responsibility of raising families. Many orphans do not go to school because of fear of retaliation from the warring party. Rido limits not only freedom of movement but also opportunities and so many dreams.

Watch this film on rido produced by our young leaders from the Iranun Corridor who want to say enough to wasted lives; who want to raise their voices through this story and send the message that justice cannot only be met by the barrel of a gun.

This film was written, shot, and edited by members of the Iranun Corridor Youth Network (ICYN), International Alert Philippines's and TASBIKKa Inc.'s youth network in Maguindanao. We thank Build Up for co-facilitating the participatory videomaking process with the filmmakers and the Australian Embassy in the Philippines for their support in building conflict resilient communities.
