This Week in the Scripture

Psalm Psalm 103:1-5, 20-22

Everlasting God, you have wonderfully established the ministries of angels and mortals. Mercifully grant that as Michael and the angels contend against the cosmic forces of evil, so by your direction they may help and defend us here on earth, through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God whom we worship and praise with angels and archangels and all the company of heaven, now and forever.
Amen.

Consideration of and care for those in need (especially those "at our gate," visible to us, of whom we are aware) is an essential component of good stewardship. It is in the sharing of wealth that we avoid the snare of wealth. It is the one whom death could not hold--who comes to us risen from the dead--who can free us from the death grip of greed.

The mission of Family Promise is to keep homeless families together during their time of crisis by providing safe shelter and meals in congregational facilities, and to provide support services needed to educate, encourage, and empower these families in their quest to re-establish their individual pride and independence.
"Family Promise" will be staying at the Luther Inn from Sunday Oct. 13 to Saturday Oct. 26. Currently there is only one family of a mom and daughter in the program but there is the potential that 2 more families will be accepted into the program in the next few weeks. Lutheran Disaster Response
2019 Hurricane Response
The situation:
Hurricane Dorian has hit the Bahamas with devastating force, leading to major damage and a growing number of reported deaths. The storm is now moving along the southeastern coast of the United States, threatening our neighbors with dangerous winds and life-threatening storm surge.
Our response:
Lutheran Disaster Response is in communication with the Florida-Bahamas Synod, the South Carolina Synod, the North Carolina Synod, Lutheran Services Carolinas and other partners who are preparing to respond. We are ready to stand by our neighbors as they recover from this hurricane and any others the 2019 season may bring.
What you can do:
Pray
Please pray for people who have been affected by hurricanes. May God's healing presence give them peace and hope in their time of need.
Give
Your gifts designated for “Hurricane Response” will be used entirely (100 percent) for direct response until it is complete. Together, we can help provide immediate and long-lasting support for those whose lives have been impacted by hurricanes.

O GOD, look with compassion on the one in seven Americans who face hunger in this country. Preserve their dignity as they struggle to get enough to eat. May those looking for jobs find new opportunities to earn a living. May those who are unable to work be supported and sustained by their communities. Lord, in your mercy.
