Lutz Preparatory School K-8 DOES NOT need to make up for missed classroom time due to Hurricane Dorian. Our academic calendar for days off, holidays, and early dismissal will stand as published for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year. Hillsborough County Public Schools and Lutz Preparatory builds additional instructional time into its calendar each year. Leader in Me - Habit of the Month
Be Proactive

Each month our school will have one "habit of the month" that will be highlighted across all our grades.  September's habit is Be Proactive:  I am a responsible person.  I take initiative.  I choose my actions, attitudes, and moods.  I do not blame others for my wrong actions.  I do the right thing without being asked, even when no one is asking.

Weekly Activity to Support Habit:
Be Proactive: You are free to choose and are ultimately responsible for your own happiness

The deadline is Friday, October 4th for all incentives and homeroom participation.

Bolts of Blue Campaign Runs Through October 4, 2019
Another great week for our Bolts of Blue Campaign!
We are excited to report that our community of supporters has donated $40,320 as of this morning.

How Can You Help to Meet Our Fundraising Goal?
If we look to our community and extended Lutz Preparatory supporters by spreading the word to businesses that support education we can without a doubt exceed our campaign goal!  Please consider the following examples of additional ways to support Lutz Preparatory.

Friends and Family Sample Letter for Donations
We have had a few parents ask for a sample letter to help their child(ren) spread the word to friends and family regarding the campaign.  Click HERE for a sample letter.

Check with Your Employer to See if they Match Donations
Many of our parents' employers will match dollar-for-dollar donations to non-profit organizations like Lutz Prep.  Check with your HR department to see if they offer this benefit.  We also encourage our families to reach out to local businesses in your community for sponsorships in addition to potential employer matching benefits.  Thank you to those families who have pursued this company matching option and DOUBLED their donation to support our school!

Future Bolts of Blue Spirit Days
Detailed flyers will be sent out the week prior to each spirit day with appropriate dress codes for each themed day.  Students not participating in themed spirit day must wear standard Monday-Thursday uniform attire (not Friday spirit shirts).

  • Thursday, September 26th:  Super Hero Day
  • Thursday, October 3rd:  Blackout Day

Middle School Leadership House Sorting Ceremony
This Wednesday, middle school students were sorted into one of six houses (Fidelitas, Novus, Mollitiam, Compassio, Animo, Illuminare), that are comprised of students from each grade level and two teachers to serve as guides.  Each house is represented by a different animal, and specific characteristics that a leader would typically demonstrate. Students will remain in these houses throughout their middle school career at Lutz Prep, and welcome new members each year.  We are excited to see how the house program will help shape future leaders through various activities, events, and teamwork, while simultaneously building school camaraderie.

National Junior Honor Society Induction Ceremony
The Lutz Preparatory Chapter of the NJHS held their new member induction ceremony on Wednesday after school.  Congratulations to our twenty four new 7th grade and eleven new 8th grade members.

Wireless Communication Driving Law
The Florida Department of Highways Safety and Motor Vehicles is partnering with the Florida Department of Transportation and law enforcement partners to educate Floridians on the changes to distracted driving law with the Put It Down: Focus on Driving campaign. The Wireless Communications While Driving Law, section 316.305, Florida Statutes, takes effect on July 1, 2019. This new law requires drivers to put their phones down and focus on driving.

What is the Wireless Communications While Driving Law?

Section 316.305, Florida Statutes allows law enforcement to stop motor vehicles and issue citations to motorists that are texting and driving. A person may not operate a motor vehicle while manually typing or entering multiple letters, numbers or symbols into a wireless communications device to text, email and instant message.

Section 316.306, Florida Statutes, is a prohibition on using wireless communications devices in a handheld manner in school and work zone.  A person may not operate a motor vehicle while using a wireless communications device in a handheld manner in a designated school crossing, school zone or active work zone area.
