Virtual run
Been asked to share this virtual run
----
I am running London Marathon 2020 for the Institute of Cancer Research as my Mum, a fellow Redway Runner, is bravely battling Cancer for a second time.
I am hosting a virtual run between now and 31st October, it is a walk/run/cycle scoot of 1-20 miles where you have to draw a gps picture of anything you like with the route and submit it to earn a personalised medal. Further details can be found on the event on Facebook, link below.
Been asked to share this event with you, if anyone is interested in doing and co-ordinating let me know and can send over details

Kirtlington Park Charity Run
Been asked to share this event with you
---
We wondered if any of your members would be interested in taking part in the Kirtlington Park Charity Run on 29th September.
Been asked to let you know about this event
----
The Ley Hill Challenge trail run is now in its 9th year, taking place on Sunday 6th October and would be grateful if you would inform your members of the event.
For those not familiar with the event, Ley Hill is just outside Chesham. The event has 3 aims;
- to promote a healthy lifestyle
- give people a reason to run out in the beautiful Chilterns countryside
- to raise money for the local school who need funds to improve the sports facilities
The event is small (up to 150 entrants in total) and aims to provide a friendly atmosphere, medals for all finishers and prizes for those at the front of the field!
There is a 5km and a 10km course - the latter being a challenging course which has proved a good test for runners ahead of the cross country season.
The 5km course is flatter and a great way to see the local countryside for less regular runners and is a nice variation from a parkrun.
We have been talking to Warner Leisure breaks about the possibility of doing a club trip to one of their locations.
We are looking at the three night break starting 19 June or the 26 June 2020 (Friday, Saturday and Sunday), but for this to happen we would need a minimum number to come and enjoy the fun
This would be to the Corton Holiday village which is set on the Suffolk coast, near famous Southwold, Corton has all the easy atmosphere of a holiday home, with the creature comforts Warner is famous for. Built on a chalet theme, the rooms have clapboard design, with fresh pastel interiors, and many have terraces overlooking the sea. Guests can have a snack in the Coffee Lounge or enjoy cabaret in The Boathouse.
The price includes accommodation, dinner bed and breakfast for the three nights and it also has activities on site as well from archery, rifle shooting and much more, plus of course evening entertainment:
if we go 19 June it would be FESTIVAL - MOTOWN & SOUL Starring Roy G Hemmings and The Dictionary of Soul, Jackson Soul and The Starlights, The Lorraine Crosby Motown Show, Uche Eke, a DJ every night and more
If we go 26 June LATE & LIVE Featuring late nights with live bands, party dancing, acoustic sets and leisurely days
Of course would (well should) do some running, so hoping that can organise a club Friday afternoon run, Saturday Lowestoft parkrun is close and Sunday morning can organise another run
For a double room then the cost would be £179 for the weekend per person (this is based on sharing a standard double room) Single rooms are available but with a supplement, which would be about £24 per person THIS IS A BIG DISCOUNT ON THE CURRENT PRICES FOR THESE WEEKENDS
Anyway, to progress this, I am looking for genuine expressions of interest, then when get enough will be asking for deposits so we can get the booking confirmed.
So if interested drop me a mail at rr@redwayrunners.com with dates you prefer (will go with majority preference) then we can take it from there.
Been looking at the details and they do get very good reviews and you get plenty for your money
Please note these are Adult breaks so do not take under 21's or pets
Redway Runners Virtual challenge 2019
Codebreaker challenge
This September sees the 80th anniversary of Bletchley Park opening and we thought this would be worth commemorating by making it the basis of our next Redway Runners ‘challenge’
I’m sure most of us know about the codebreaking activity that took place on site which was instrumental in helping the Allies win WW2 - This is your chance to try your hand at cracking codes to earn yourself some fantastic bling!
Now I know you’re all thinking that this sounds a bit difficult but in reality, this is so simple that children will be able to assist…… in fact this is positively encouraged to make it an educational as well as a fun challenge
So what do you have to do?
Firstly make your own enigma machine….. don’t worry full instructions will be provided!
Enter the challenge to receive your first code to crack
Take a photo of yourself at the location that is revealed and send it to us to receive your second code
There are 4 in total to solve to earn a fantastic medal and make some money for charity at the same time
We will then have a special (optional) run from a secret location where you will be awarded your medal to wear with pride….. and of course, demonstrate to your friends how clever you are
If you fancy getting involved to make some money for our charity and to bring alive a fantastic piece of local history, then sign into your Redway Runners Love Admin account, select 'event' and enter the challenge....
The MK Autumn run is on Saturday 28 September 2019, this year, again, we will be looking after a water station on route, and Jenny D is looking after this for the club and it will be the Redway Runners cheering point, this year it will be at the car park in Tattenhoe (Red rose kebab are based). Anyway we need your help, if you can help please let Jenny know by mailing her at: Jenny.dowling1979@hotmail.com
Also we will have a place in the event village with our event shelters and flags, Sue B is managing this a place to get your race magnets on the day (£7 a set) talk about the club or just to rest for a few minutes on the day. If you can help with this contact Sue B by mailing her at sue.boothby@btinternet.com
If you are running then we will go for the usual big green photo 15 minutes before the start time at the Redway Runners tents.
More details about the event at: https://www.resultsbase.net/event/4833 Do not forget Redway Runners members get a discount - details in the 'Race Discounts section of the club weekly mail
Open Evening for Beginners & new runners
Redway Runners are having an open evening for our Autumn beginners’ groups and new runners to the club, at the Up & Running store in Milton Keynes on Thursday 19 September 2019 from 6pm to 8pm.
We can now let you know that on the night we will be having two beginners homework sessions so can combine doing you beginners session with a run, they will be at 6pm with Anne, this will be a repeat of the week 3 session, then at 7pm with Becky and Annabel an introduction to an interval session, this will be focused at week 3 beginners
So for beginners this will be a perfect night to go along and find out all the info you need for your running
Also on the night you will be able to check out with the experts the kit you might need for running and remember being a Redway Runners member means you get club discount (usual conditions).
We have Rudi, from the Treatment lab coming and you can talk to him about injuries and injury treatments
Redway Runners will be there, and we are going to bring some club kit along so you can check it for size before you buy, plus ask us any questions about the club.
Sunday 6 October 2019 13:00. London
After last year's successful London Funderground Run, we are keen to make this free event bigger and more ridiculous than before. This event is suitable for all abilities.
You will navigate your way across London, taking in underground platforms along the way; total route approx 10-kms. Team points can be gained by completing crazy tasks; just how many people can you fit into a phone box? However, teams will also loose points by being 'intercepted' by other teams of marauders!
Start and finish will be at iconic landmarks easily accessible by train. Registration is very simple, just message tim.miles@talktalk.net
Individuals welcome as teams can be arranged on the day. As last year, we'll finish in a pub.
Will this be another victory for the ladies?
Hope to see many of you in green there.
