AYBI'S REAL TALK IN CAMDEN SCHOOLS
AYBI takes a young, person-centred approach to empower at-risk young people to have self-awareness of irrational beliefs, and to promote social and physical well-being.
Our programmes are delivered by youth mentors qualified and experienced in delivering Rational Emotive and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques (RET/CBT), mindfulness and boxing training.
We're delivering our Real Talk programme in three Camden Schools- Maria Fidelis, Camden School for Learning and Ryhl Primary School.
AYBI's Real Talk programme involves introducing young people in school years to training in non-combat boxing skills and discipline. It combines this training with RET/CBT techniques delivered through one-to-one mentoring and group ‘circle time’ discussion. The overall goal is to support at-risk young people in Camden to stay in and engage with school, and we have identified a range of pathways and specific outcomes through which our project supports this aim.
Our programme works with locally resident young people who are at risk of, and who have already been excluded from school.
Activities have been developed to improve school engagement by increasing young people’s self-esteem, social skills, well-being and psychological/behavioural adjustment, ability to control anger, aggression and frustration, self-control and restraint. One-to-one and group circle time discussions specifically enable young people to identify challenges they experience at school and barriers to learning linked to negative and irrational thoughts. Mentors coproduce pathway plans with young people to work towards achieving their own identified goals.
AYBI's Real Talk in Schools is supported by the
Big Lottery Reaching Communities Fund.
