Blockchain in Government

In this edition of the BLING newsletter we share updates of our partners in Antwerpen, Howest and Emmen, and look forward to our meeting in Gothenburg.

Self-sovereign identity in Belgium

Blockchain on the move is a pilot project in Belgium that aims to "assess how the state of blockchain technology currently available can be implemented in real situations." The goal is to make citizens (more) owner of their data and identity.

They share their findings here.
Blockchain Lab Howest

On Thursday september 19th Howest welcomed the City of Bruges, Antwerp, Roeselare, Houthalen-Helchteren and Turnhout at the kick off of the blockchain lab. An overview of the pilots and a blockchain training (architecture) gave the participants the first insights into blockchain technology.

On november 4 and 5, the BLING partners will have a steering committee in Oldenburg. A possible external event will also be held on one of these dates. More news to come!
Not only was there a lot of activity in Belgium, also in the Netherlands a Blockchain Lab was hosted on 19th of september, in the city of Emmen. This was the first meeting of a series of meetings concerning blockchain. One of the issues discussed was "Self Souvereigned Attendancy":

"We coined the phrase Self Souvereigned Attendancy (SSA) as a system that makes it possible to have an anonymised attendacylist where the participants can prove they attended using DLT (since the paper-based lists with names and signatures of people who attended an event are no longer GDPR-compliant). We think we might have a solution using a public mainnet and are looking into the viability of starting a project to develop SSA."

Does that sound like you want to know more? You can follow their Discord-server where online disucssions are held. And if you are interested in joining, you can do so here.
