“I’m excited for Shaneé to take on this essential role of growing and strengthening our network,” said John Bracken, DPLA’s executive director. “At DPLA, we have a strong commitment to the aggregation and sharing of the nation’s cultural heritage. Everything we do is through collaboration, and I’m confident that Shaneé is the right person to ensure that we continue to serve as a platform and partner for institutions across the country.”

“Throughout my career I’ve been driven by a passion to ensure that every American has access to the information and culture they need to live their lives,” said Murrain. “I look forward to taking on this challenge to ensure that everyone is able to have a strong collective digital presence through DPLA and maintaining the high-quality standards for which we have become known.”

Murrain comes to DPLA from University of West Georgia, where she has been university archivist and assistant professor and where she was named Faculty Member of the Year in 2018. Previously she was Director of Library Services and Archivist at Payne Theological Seminary, where she curated the Payne Theological Seminary and African Methodist Episcopal Church Digital Collection. As Project Coordinator of the Religion in North Carolina Digital Collection she served as a point of contact with libraries across the country to ensure the continuity of workflow including coordinating digitization procedures for the Library Services and Technology Act grant-funded project. She is 2019 President-Elect of the Society of Georgia Archivists and serves on the Board of Directors of Atla, formerly known as the American Theological Library Association. Murrain holds a B.A. in Religion and Philosophy from Bethune-Cookman University, a Master of Divinity from Drew Theological School and a Master of Library Science from North Carolina Central University.

Murrain will start with DPLA on October 7.
