Coping with Caring Workshops

Bringing our Carer’s Handbook to Life
(n.b. Previously our Family Workshops)

When: Thursdays October 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th
Time: 6-8pm
Where: 32 Hampton Road, Twickenham, TW2 5QB

(The last session on the 24th will combine sessions 4&5 and will take place from 5:30-8:30pm)

Our series of 5 weekly sessions will give you the time and space to reflect on your caring role and the skills that you use to support your cared for.  We will break down the key points of our Carer’s Handbook, going into more detail about navigating the mental health maze, improving communication skills, managing challenging behaviour, the Recovery Approach and your wellbeing. These sessions are great for carers new to our service, but also serve as a refresher for long-term carers, as we believe there is always something new to learn, and many people have benefited greatly from the new relationships formed with other carers in a similar situation to yourself.

We would really like to have an experienced carer assisting us with these; sharing your knowledge and gained skills over the years would be so valuable to other carers. Whether you can attend all five sessions or just one please let us know if this role would be of interest to you!!

Our 5 sessions will be as follows:

Session 1 - Navigating the Mental Health Maze
Session 2 - Improving Communications Skills
Session 3 - Managing Challenging Behaviour
Session 4 - The Recovery Approach: Having Hope
Session 5 - Your Wellbeing

Here is some feedback from carers who have previously attended these workshops:

"I'm grateful that if there is another crisis I'll now know what I'm doing"

"It is useful hearing from people with similar experiences. I now know I need to call the care coordinator for my son"

"I have enjoyed sharing mistakes and successes and learning about other services available"

If you would like to sign up to these sessions please register your interest with us at carers@rbmind.org by Wednesday 2nd October at the latest or reply to our text reminder.

We encourage attendance to all sessions but we understand such a commitment can be hard so we can be flexible.

Best wishes,

The Carers Team
