Pennsylvania Redistricting Reform

The long awaited Pennsylvania Redistricting Reform Commission Report came out the last week of August, calling for the creation of an independent citizen commission composed of 10 voting members chosen equally by legislative leaders of both parties and led by a governor-appointed non-voting chair. The report is not the end of the discussion. The redistricting process still falls under our PA lawmakers’ control. Two redistricting reform hearings are scheduled in Harrisburg this month and you can still get involved by:

  1. VOTING IN ALL ELECTIONS!!! Accountable redistricting processes start with local government.
  2. Sign up for Redistricting U, which is part of Obama’s All On The Line initiative. They will train you to impact the redistricting process in your community.
  3. Stay informed and get involved with Fair Districts PA, a statewide organization dedicated to creating a transparent, impartial and fair redistricting process.
  4. Become a Census Champion with Philly Counts. You may not see the connection between the Census and redistricting, but an inaccurate count will impact redrawn maps.
