CONSERVATION NEWS
Aerial census 2019
The annual aerial census was once again a huge success, under the watchful eye of the Timbavati's Ecologist Almero Bosch.  Ever year, the team is placed in the safe hands of well known helicopter pilot, Mike Pingo, who has decades of game counting experience. Taking to the sky to see the breathtaking beauty of the Timbavati is a really special occasion that not many people are able to experience.  Our two experiential training students, were lucky enough to experience this firsthand and had their first taste of wildlife management 101.

Be sure to be on the lookout for our readers blog on the census 2019! One not to be missed.

During the past week, the learners from the four "Future Rangers" supported schools, were challenged and quizzed on the knowledge gained during the past few months syllabus.

The Grade 6's were given a short, four question test on our natural resources and their importance to both animals and plants, with all the learners passing with flying colours!
The Grade 2's revisited the "Big Five" and their importance for eco-tourism.
The Grade 4's getting active and undertaking a few nature based games.  Reinforcing the importance of wildlife, habitat ans a healthy lifestyle.
A class of Grade R's spent the day in the Kruger National Park, and boy was it an unforgettable experience!!
This little fellow is giving his class mates a debriefing of just how much fun he had and his highlights for the day.

On the 10th of September, the TPNR was invited to present at the WWF KHETHA "Finding Common Ground" three day workshop.

This valuable opportunity allowed for all partners within the region to come together, network, share ideas, strengthen partnerships and create new ones.

Post CITES
https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/…/2019-09-03-developing-wo…/

"The 16 nations of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) have threatened to withdraw from the Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES), saying that it threatens national interests."

As the dust settles after the recent CITES meeting in Geneva, some observers feel that African nations are getting a raw deal. Others maintain that CITES is an important conservation institution.

What do you think - Should Southern African states stay or rather leave CITES?
