Suicide Rates are Rising, Especially in Rural America. From 1999 to 2016, the rate of suicide among Americans ages 25 to 64 rose by 41 percent, researchers reported in JAMA Network Open. Rates among people living in rural counties were 25 percent higher than those in major metropolitan areas. Read More 
National Preparedness Month's theme is 'Prepared, Not Scared. Be Ready for Disasters.' Here are tips to help you be prepared.Because emergencies and disasters can happen without notice, the state Department for Public Health is offering tips on how to always be prepared in a campaign called "Prepared, Not Scared. Be Ready for Disasters" during National Preparedness Month, which falls in September. Read More
KY Scombroid Poisoning Alert. This alert is to warn you about possible Scombroid poisoning following the consumption of Yellowfin tuna steaks. On September 7, 2019, the FDA issued a consumer alert for Yellowfin tuna steaks sold at Kroger retail stores in several states, including Kentucky, with "sell by" dates of August 29 - Sept. 14, 2019. 29 Million Depend on Primary Care Funding that Expires September 30. In a matter of days, every health center in America stands to lose more than 70% of their federal grant funding without Congress extending the funding by September 30. Community Health Centers provide care to 29 million people across the country according to the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC). One in twelve Americans, among them families and veterans living in underserved and rural communities, depend on Community Health Centers for health care. Read More

The Kentucky Department for Public Health (KDPH) is alerting clinicians about the possibility of seeing patients with progressive, severe pulmonary disease related to the use of e-cigarettes or “vaping.” As of August 27, at least 215 possible cases in 25 states have been reported to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). These pulmonary injuries are particularly seen among adolescents and young adults. Patients are experiencing respiratory symptoms including cough, shortness of breath, and fatigue, and symptoms typically worsen over a period of days or weeks before admission to the hospital. Other symptoms reported by some patients included fever, anorexia, pleuritic chest pain, nausea, and diarrhea. Read More
