We are pleased to announce the following as the 2019 recipients of IMB's Innovation Awards:
- Ekundayo Bandele (pictured top left), founder of Hattiloo Theatre. Hattiloo is the only freestanding Black repertory theatre in five surrounding states and one of only a few in the nation. Since its founding 14 years ago, it has produced strong theatrical performances as well as programming and performances staged for free around the city, engaging more than 5,000 people annually. It is gaining a national reputation while remaining focused on the local community.
- RemediChain's Ayilé Arnett and Phil Baker (pictured top right). There is a large number of wasted medication in the United States, even though millions of Americans go without necessary prescriptions because they can’t afford them. Memphis-based RemediChain is working to eliminating this waste, using blockchain technology to change the face of prescription donation.
- Jay Martin and his team at MyCityRides: Andy Nix, Megan Klein, and Jason Williford (pictured bottom left). MyCityRides makes reliable transportation affordable and ownership possible for those in the workforce with limited means. Scooters are offered as part of a fixed-cost program, where participants lease-to-own a new, motorized scooter for an affordable monthly payment. MyCityRides outfits them with gear and takes care of regular maintenance till it’s paid off.
- Mark Pryor at The Seam (pictured bottom right). The Seam created the world’s first completely online, anonymous exchange for cotton, and since then has leveraged its software and application development expertise in agriculture to expand into other commodity segments, including peanuts. It’s further developing a blockchain consortium to improve and increase efficiencies within the cotton supply chain.
