Beyond Awareness Luncheon:
Actions to Improve Diversity & Inclusion

The fields of physics and engineering face many challenges in addressing equality, diversity and inclusion. While most people are aware that these challenges exist and some conscious efforts have been made, these fields continue to experience difficulty recruiting and retaining diverse talent. This luncheon at the European Conference on Optical Communication (ECOC) will bring together inclusive leaders from optics and STEM communities to discuss best practices, available resources and evidence-based actions.

Speakers and panelists include: Victoria Brownlee, Athena SWAN Programme Manager, Ireland; Simon Poole, AO, Director at Cylite; Marion Boland, Head of Research Policy at the Science Foundation Ireland; Grey Batie, Board Member of the National Society of Black Physicists; Ana Gonzales, R&D Manager of the European Photonics Industry Consortium (EPIC).
Date: Tuesday, September 24, 2019
Time: 11:00-13:00
Location: ECOC 2019
