- SEPTEMBER 2019 -
One Week Countdown To The
2019 Outback Festival!
Australia's quirkiest festival, famous for the Quilton Australian Dunny Derby, is throwing out the welcome mat for an unprecedented number of entertainers including award winning country music artist, Adam Harvey, Olympic champion Sara Carrigan and celebrity chef Matt Golinski. Plus a myriad of authentic Aussie experiences from Outback Iron Juniors to bush tucker and camp oven cooking, a Monster Truck Show, evening concert series and a new evening laser installation down Winton's main street.

Guests joining the ultimate celebration of all things ‘Outback’ at Australia’s quirkiest festival are sure to be wildly entertained with no shortage of activities available throughout the week for all ages and interests. Opening the festival at the official Welcome Ceremony on Tuesday 24th September will be the festival’s official comperes, 4MK Breakfast Announcer ‘Hammo’ & Bowen’s own Leon Mitchell – both celebrating their 10th Outback Festival attendance.

Day One will see the start of the week long Outback Strength challenges, wherein competitors will put not only their physical but also mental strength to the test with a series of gruelling events with a distinctly Outback twist. Battling it out over 5 days to be crowned the Outback Iron Man, Outback Iron Woman and Masters of The Outback respectively, this is not a challenge for the faint of heart.

For the smaller outback champions, the Little Swaggies events and Outback Iron Juniors challenge will also be kicking off on Day One and running throughout the week alongside the Whip Cracking Challenge, Wool Bale Rolling, Egg Throwing and Wobble Board Painting activities to keep the tykes entertained and unleash their inner Outback champ.
Live entertainment will be taking place week long with an incredible line-up of music acts ready to perform in a series of concerts. The festival will be hosting a number of official concerts throughout the week, starting with the ‘Outback Festival Spectacular Opening Event Concert’ on Tuesday 24th September with Darren Coggan performing his tribute show to the great Glen Campbell.

The Friday Night Concert Series on Friday 27th September will see a line up of both new and old favourites ready to entertain. Country singer-songwriter sister duo Innocent Eve and the 1 RAR Rock Band will be joined by Frankie H Holden & Wilbur Wilde along with the Absolutely 80’s show with Brian Mannix (Uncanny X-Men), Scott Carne (Kids In The Kitchen) and Dale Ryder (Boom Crash Opera).

Finally the Outback Thunda Concert Series on Saturday 28th September will close out the festival with some of Australia’s best-loved artists and tribute acts. The Chantoozies, one of Australia’s most dynamic, irresistibly catchy and hottest live bands will be joined by Brad Butcher, the 2018 Golden Guitar Winner at the forefront of a new generation of Australian music artists. Tribute acts ACCA DACCA and the Chili Peppers Tribute Band round out the line-up to bring high energy and massive sounds to the final concert of the festival along with a massive Monster Truck show featuring the Spirit of Australia car crush.

Complementing the ticketed concert series are a host of free live music acts and performances that will be taking place on the Winton main street every day of the festival. Celebrated rising country music star Heath Milner will be performing a number of sets on the Main Stage through the week, as will the high energy quirky group the Hillbilly Goats. The main street will also be seeing a number of performances by The Crack Up Sisters, a country comedy and acrobatics acts, Leapin Louie, an American comedy stunt performer, and the Memphis Movers Roving Duo providing a carnival atmosphere.
For the foodies, the Sunset Extravaganza Charity Dinner is this year to be prepared by celebrity chef Matt Golinski. The strictly limited special event is a special dinner that will take place underneath the outback stars in aid of the Royal Flying Doctor Service on Thursday 26th September. Out in the main street, Ranger Nick & David Hudson will be hosting their ‘Black Fella White Fella Bush Cooking’ demonstrations throughout the week.

Never to be forgotten is the star of the festival, the quirkiest event of them all – The Quilton Australian Outback Dunny Derby – to take place on Friday 27th September. Following the Parade of Entrants, the races will begin with teams vying it out with their Dunny to be crowned champions of the Dunny Derby!
