Scout Shop Temporary Closing

Next week, from September 16th- 20th, the Woburn Scout Shop main room will be temporarily closed for renovation, reopening Saturday the 21st. However, because of the demand during the start of the new Scouting year, there will be an auxiliary store out of Base Camp Express and the Woburn Service Center for basic uniforms, books and advancements.

To keep store lines efficient, if troops have large lists of advancement purchases, leaders should please send purchase order lists to the store beforehand to woburnscoutshop@scouting.org. Advancement purchase order lists can be downloaded or printed right from Scoutbook.

Easy to Recruit "New Member Coordinators"

The New Member Coordinator (NMC) is a Cub Scout leader position created to help sustain strong unit membership by welcoming and connecting with new Scouts and their families, serving as a welcoming ambassador for the unit.

In general, all New Member Coordinators:

  • Serve as welcoming ambassadors for the unit
  • Work with the unit committee in developing and implementing the Unit Membership Plan
  • Participate in New Member Coordinator training and collaborate with the district membership team.

For the month of September only – Any unit that switches an existing committee member to the specific designation of New Member Coordinator, can be done by simply sending an email request. Effective October 1st, the change in position will once again require a paper application.

We are offering this special exception because we recognize another important function that the New Member Coordinator. The NMC also has the ability to send invitations via the on-line registration’s Membership Manager. And more importantly, can monitor when new online registrations are being submitted to the pack or troop. They can’t approve the applications, but they can alert the unit leader, committee chair, or charter representative that there are applications that need to be approved. This is especially helpful during the fast and furious fall recruiting season.

This opportunity only applies to existing Committee Members. Brand new leaders need to submit the standard adult application, CORI application w/photo ID, and must take the Youth Protection Training.

Museum of Science Overnights

The Museum of Science is a great Program Partner of the Spirit of Adventure Council. Several weekends in the winter and spring are set aside for Scouts to explore and spend an night in the Museum in Boston. Registrations are open!

*This year we have an additional date in November on the 16th.

An overnight at the Museum of Science is a special program that inspires children to discover science in fun and educational ways. Campers have an opportunity to sleep on the floors of the Museum Exhibit Halls and participate in activities after the Museum closes. A typical Overnight stay includes a variety of hands-on science activities, demonstrations, a Planetarium show, and Omni film, and time to explore the Museum with chaperones.

Arrival and Registration is between 5 and 6:30pm. Overnight officially ends at 11am the next day.

Blog Post: "How Do You Scout?"- Alignment Survey

The Council has a BRAND NEW tool to help make sure that your unit values are aligned with the values of your Scout families!

Scouting is families working together to help raise each other’s kids. When we look at Scouting like this, it reminds us that Scouting is a community function. Each unit is a reflection of its families and charter organization. We find families and parents work best and develop harmony when all the families are aligned.
