This week was the first of six interim committee weeks in Tallahassee ahead of Florida's 2020 Legislative Session. We heard presentations in several committee meetings that highlighted the issues we need to address for Floridians in the coming months.

It's my goal to keep our community updated on the progress we make together throughout these next committee weeks! Here's a look at our most recent efforts up in Tallahassee:
Committee Meetings
We examined the forecast for the 2020 budget and discussed how we can fund projects that will support Florida's growing population and expanding economy.

During our Appropriations Subcommittee on Criminal and Civil Justice
meeting, Florida Department of Corrections Secretary Mark Inch presented fiscal solutions for staffing shortages, safety issues, and healthcare costs in our correctional facilities. We will take a deeper look into each of his suggestions as we move toward session.

The Sadowski Housing Coalition underscored how vital it is for Florida residents to have access to affordable housing during our Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Tourism, and Economic Development meeting.

Week one was extremely successful, and I'm eager to keep working on behalf of the folks in District 8!
Florida's Economic Might
I also stood with Governor DeSantis, my Senate colleagues, and the Florida Chamber of Commerce to highlight Florida's fight to become one of the most business- and family-friendly states in the nation. We're on the right track with a solid Florida Supreme Court, common sense insurance reform, and our tax structure, but there is much more work to be done!
I was extremely honored to be recognized by the Small County Coalition for our efforts to support economic viability in our rural communities. I'm excited to continue working together on behalf of our families, friends, and neighbors!
